…. It's as good a Colletta one could hope for.... :cloud9: it still irks me that so many mainstream SA collectors consider him to be a hack.... the guy was a genius. One of my favorites is kind of simple yet masterly.... plus it has a Matt Baker story to boot. GOD BLESS....

I have a reader copy (which is most important to me, because the interior is so great!).  A couple photos of some interior contents (Pike and maybe that's Toth?)

:applause:Cool to see another Artist spotlighted for the genre, and all the Atlas Romance posted today! Almost seemed like the PCH Thread but with Love books lol

Glad to see interiors. This genre has so much going for it and a way to go still to determine classic stories, covers and the really HTF, all of which the PCH genre is rife with across publishers major and minor. Yes the stories can be melodramatic, but what comic book story isn't to some degree, but there are some very adult themes and 'situations' alluding to sex and conflict of 'morals' between a lot of these pages that are as eyebrow raising as all the graphic violence and murder in the Horror and Crime genres.

Preparing for a trip away for a week on Sunday or i'd post some interiors of some Romance books that if some folks knew were inside could make these books instant classics. But that will wait until after my return. Until then keep this Thread on page one guys, keep 'em coming :applause:

Great books Yorick!  Love to see the Atlas - even more so, if some of the contents can be pictured.  Look forward to seeing those when you get back, Sagii.  (thumbsu  With the copyright protection in place by Marvel and DC, it's a  visual embargo for the most part.  So it's a rare treat when a site like Atlas Tales has full scans of a story up, like Just My Type.  Interestingly, Ger Apeldoorn weighs in with this commentary about whether this story is Toth or Sekowsky.  Toth was incredibly influential on the whole artist community; many tried to copy his technique as best they were able.

"Notes: This is the first time I have seen this story, which was always attributed to Toth, but recently has been recanted by him. Apparently it is by Sekowsky imitating Toth. But that seems almost impossible. Although some parts look to weak to be pure Toth, some panels, such as the tier with the two girls on the couch and the silent panel of a hand picking up a book can only be pure Toth in my eyes... unless they are swipes. These panels are too inventive to be imitation. It is not that Sekowsky couldn't be as inventive as that, but it is hard to believe he could be inventive in Toth's way. - Ger"

Maybe our resident Toth expert, Adamstrange, could weigh in as well?

Great cover, very striking with the white background and the blue masthead

This cover was reprinted a few years later.  Much less striking, in many respects, primarily the shading technique Pike (and Colletta and Hartley) was playing with.

The only example of Atlas doing a reprint, romance wise, I believe.  Made sure to get rid of Pike's sig.  This book has Baker as well, some of the last work he did of course.

I've been on an Atlas kick for years..... so every chance to box dive Atlas' books is a given...… I just kept running across these just exquisite Colletta covers sprinkled in.... it wasn't long before I acquired the taste. Sometimes I'd see one that was especially sharp grade, you almost can't help snagging them. Jason Hamlin didn't help either, with those short boxes of romance at every show :cloud9: GOD BLESS....

For some of these Colletta's I've felt that he was channeling Toth (and I love it).

I don't know what he sees in her.  She's a terrible cook.

The both did work for Standard and, at first glance, it can be hard to tell their stories apart.

And this one, which used to be mine, and is again.  Back to papa!

As far as I can tell, unique 4 panel Colletta atomic pre-code

LOVE ROMANCES 69.jpg

A few years ago, I bought a seemingly high-grade copy of this one from a dealer -- after extended haggling.  A couple of weeks later when I finally got around to taking it out of the bag, it had a significant water stain on the back cover.  Of course, neither of us had bothered to take it out of the bag while we were discussing it. doh!
