It's odd as the area above the Silver Surfer looks like the results of a bad press, the area below the issue number looks like tape pull(s).

I can see doing nothing if you take paper off a book via a tape pull, but leaving extra paper on is laughable, especially since they did it. Appears there was no attempt to bring this to QC and say “what do we do now”.

Is that the remains of the paper that's used to seperate the book from the press itself?  what would cause it to stick?  Too much moisture?  Too much heat?  A combination of both?

The damage caused by a tape pull and the damage caused by a moist cover sticking to whatever it's resting on (or whatever is resting on it) can appear quite similar.  The extent of the ink/paper lift (the pattern of the damage) is what will generally reveal the root cause.

In the new CGC grading guide, this looks like what's described as "paper lift", which appears similar to a tape pull but is usually caused by moisture, the removal of a substance, a sticker, or glue residue...

I'm wondering is this is paper lifted off the cover of the book, or something else was layed on top of it. and its something else that transferred onto the book in question? We need some answers here.

What bothers me most is that apparently no one at CCS or CGC addressed the issue. Very troubling...

I watch those videos and hear stories of people having books damaged, labels mixed up, et cetera and keep thinking to myself, why are people still submitting books??

And there's the obvious problem.   CGC employees are making mistakes and damaging customers books and passing them down the line rather than bringing the problem to management.

This goes beyond negligence and incompetence - this is utter disregard for the property of others and a complete lack of integrity on the part of CGC, from top to bottom the whole damn process! 

Flock-up someone's high-dollar book and then just throw it out the door and don't say a word. 

CGC - they really, really just don't care.

Looks to me like this was probably done when the book was (improperly) pressed. This book should have easily been a 7.0-7.5 after pressing. Bottom line the book was ruined while in CCS/CGC's care and they need to compensate you for the loss. No excuse for this (1) happening in the first place, (2) not being caught after it happened and brought to the attention of the powers that be and (3) you not being notified of this mishap before it being sent through the rest of the process.

Yeah, that's the crazy thing. If CGC had just stopped and called the customer, explaining that the book had been ruined during pressing and offered him an over the market type compensation, this issue would have quietly disappeared. Sure, the customer would complain and post on the internet about the poor experience, but it would end there. Instead, they pack it up and send it back to the customer like nothing ever happened. Posting the image of that book, and the accompanying story, is a thousand times worse for CGC. It will never go away. Who in their right mind would trust CGC with a $10,000 to $100,000 book?

This SS 3 is the worst I’ve seen so far.  The damage is absurd, but the failure to address it is borderline criminal.   Why would you trust your books to a company that hires muppets to handle them?
