Reviews still look promising (94%)!

would likely have passed if the reviews were mediocre, now it's probably a go. been a terrible summer for movie going.

Same, was gonna skip, now I'm not.

Simon Pegg was on a local radio show in Vancouver this morning. He said Chris Pine was the Mayor of Brandi's, lol [locals will get this one]

Assume that it's a "peeler" joint?

"Exotic escorts." :luhv:

Star Trek filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada (and Dubai). Will try to catch it Friday.

The number of reviews doubled this afternoon--it's 84 positive, 10 negative now for an overall 90%. I expect it'll settle in the mid to high 80s, which means it should be a great flick. :cloud9:

I'm hearing some surprisingly good things about this movie. You wouldn't know it from the lack luster marketing campaign, but it's still good to know this movie might give the franchise a much needed boost.

RIP to Leonard and Anton on this one.

Yup. I believe that is where Affleck's got burnt and it ended the whole Benifer thing if I'm not mistaken.

Star Trek Beyond wants to remind you why you love Star Trek

Star Trek Beyond is the Star Trek movie I’ve been waiting for from this new franchise.

But for the most part, this is a story about the crew of the USS Enterprise finding themselves stranded on a mysterious planet, cut off from Starfleet and trying to figure out just who stranded them there. They’re even split up into little groups that allow for maximum character interplay and gags — having Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Bones (Karl Urban) be forced to hang out together turns out to be a master stroke, for instance.

This structure works beautifully. The characters need to work to find each other. Then they need to work to figure out just what force is keeping them on this planet. Then they need to find a way to stop that force from escaping and hurting anybody else — especially a giant star base within easy striking distance.

Screenwriters Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are big fans of Star Trek, and that shines through in nearly every frame of Beyond. This is not a perfect movie, but it’s a near-perfect Star Trek movie. And for many fans of this franchise, that will probably be enough.

Overall Score: 4/5 Stars

:applause:

Much better than the last one. It started a bit slowly, but once it gets going, it never lets up. This feels a lot more like classic Trek than the two Abrams films did.

It was an enjoyable movie that was a bit formulaic and nothing new we haven't seen already. I liked the Jaylah character as a stand out (same actress as the woman with the blade legs in Kingsmen). There's homage to the loss of Yelchin and Nimoy's characters. All Trekkies will be satisfied, I think. I especially enjoyed it visually and thought the 3D was pretty good.

The death by "Classic" music scene was pretty fun to watch.

I would say it is the weakest of the 3 ST reboots. Bit too much Simon Pegg and his one liners in ST Beyond. Skip the $17 2D triple (3) screen, as the movie loses momentum when you pan left or scan right with your eyes to view the extra WIDE spcl fx. Decent ending plot :juggle: wise.

How much of the movie was on 3 screens. I went to The Maze Runner on 3 screens and there was only a small portion of the movie on 3 screens, the rest of the time it has a ambient lighting type thing going one. I was rather disappointed. I remember thinking if the whole movie did the 3 screen wife thing, then I probably would have been impressed, but not when there were only a couple major scenes done on the wide format.
