The “reprinted by popular demand” Gold Keys? The later Gold Key/ Whitman Reprints? The Gladstone/Disney/Gemstone reprints? Bound volumes? Trade paperbacks? Foreign issues? Others? I prefer either the originals, or the early Gold Key reprints which were my introduction to The Good Duck Artist. While the print quality of the later reprints were outstanding, I love the color and feel of the old newsprint paper. What does everyone else think? I read mainly the reprints. I love the old newsprint but I'm always afraid of the fingerprint smudge.
dikran
Maybe I’m in the minority but I’m really loving the Carl Barks Library collection. Collects a bunch of stuff and no filler that doesn’t interest me, just pure Barks. Not having as extensive a collection as you guys, I find the volumes very convenient and full of great info. Popular Post MrBedrock
I know "pressing" and "Ducks" really shouldn't go together, but I always thought my copy of Donald Duck #26 looked under-graded as a 9.0. It was, and now it is the single highest graded copy at 9.4... Years before the Chunnel, I spent a night in a hostel in Rouen after landing late in LeHavre coming over from London. I was unaware of the Pressed duck! Wish I'd know. 50YrsCollctngCmcs
bartleby the scrivener On 3/14/2022 at 10:32 AM, MrBedrock said: I wish I could say this is mine, but I had access to it so I checked the date...also 1952... The coloring on those ducks is pretty funny. Guess they ate too much Halloween candy! In high school I took AP English and we had read Bartleby the Scrivener by Melville. I found out our County library loaned out films (16mm I think) and they had a film adaptation of Bartleby available for loan so I arranged with my teacher to take it out and bring it into class one day. When I was there I found out that they also had Donald Duck Trick or Treat so I figured why not show a cartoon first! So we got it rolling and wouldn't you know the principal took that particular moment to look in on the class as the Duck film was rolling!! I asked the teacher about it later and he said it wasn't a problem and he made up some story about comp literature or something to explain it. Good times! Real clean artwork on those books. These early issues don't turn up to often; they were pretty much turned to pulp by the kids who read them.
