Of the two books I think Mummy's Ring is much more fun. Besides being all Barks I really love the cover and the splash page setting the mood. Some really nice work.

I have long ago come to view Mummy's Ring as the first true Barks four color.     FC9 doesn't feel like Barks to me when I read it so when the time came I bought a 29 instead of a 9.    I feel like that Barks flavor got lost in the team approach of the FC9 story.

Of course, I'd love to have FC9 too one day, but the magic those duck stories would come to have is much more evident in 29 IMO.

My wife definitely agrees with you. She prefers Mummy's Ring by far to Pirates Gold. I think Mummy's Ring is pure barks while Pirate's Gold is a collaboration between Bob Karp, Barks, Hannah, and other Disney animators. Has certain Barks' touches but you can feel or see other influences on the art.

exactly yeah.   I made an edit along those lines while you were typing this.

I see it's the right moment to share my last 2 books. They both have some restauration, as color touch mainly, but they both look nice. The FC 9 stays very flat and brilliant, while FC 29 shows a bit more the age. However, I'm so happy for having got them and together with FC 9 I also made a new friend (the seller!).

Great back covers on them, specially the last one :)

This is no Barks, but it's still a duck book. I bought it for the back cover.

Those Dell Giant books are some serious fun. I picked up a bunch of them at flea markets as a kid for nickels and dimes. They were all beat up but I still loved reading them. Every now and then you would come across a Barks tale which was always a bonus. If not there might be some old reprints that were fun to read or some current stories from the fifties that were well done.

That seems like a big price for a raw copy… :whatthe:

WOW! I feel lucky I've got my copy of "Bubble Pipe" years ago, when these crazy prices around Ducks were not there. However, 4K+ for such a copy looks not justified to me. Still, historically it's an important one (first DD and first comic with Walt Disney on cover, although it just reprints 1936-37 strips), so its value may probably go up little by little. BTW, one of my all-time favorite covers.

The early Barks issues are nice but there are some pretty good stories in the later Duck comics as well.

Scored this at the flea market on Sunday. One I didn’t have. Most comic collectors just ignore these. But there are several that are cover to cover Carl Barks stories. Well worth picking up especially cheap!

I purchased Ghost Morgan's Treasure long before I found a FC 9.

and I found a copy of FC 108 soon after I purchased the Green Sea Serpent.  Pretty sure I purchased 2 copies of FC 147 soon after buying Volcano Valley.

I'd agree with some favorites being:

     Ancient Persia - great adventure

Christmas for Shacktown - every kid should read this at the holidays

Golden Helmet - I still quote some of the fake Latin and people still buy it!

Old Castle's Secret - the real start of Scrooge's career

There's more but you really can't go wrong!

I like all of those but my favorite early Scrooge story was THe Magic Hourglass.  I got the book from my brother and cut out the shark teeth to animate the cover.

My latest duck and the earliest book I have in this long running Australian series. This is #6 of a series that ran to #699. Only the first 7 were WDGC (there was a WDC series running in parallel) - after that it became more like the Four Color series with a wide range of Disney titles.
