My prediction:

New Superman #1 is going to come in with gargantuan run numbers.

No short term spec here.

I'm seeing mountains of this book.

And I have a bunch :(

This book is going to have a monster print run.

Hope you're dead wrong about spec though...

Character is created for Chinese market.

If it catches on: BOOM!

I bought in.

I hope I am wrong too, but seeing Star Wars #1 like quantities, maybe just some smart stores, we shall see

Wait, are you suggesting New Super-Man #1 will do numbers in the range of Star Wars #1 which was close to 1 million!?!?! If you are than that would out pace Batman #1 280,000 and Batman Rebirth #1 199,000 released last month by a COMBINED 2.5 times total print run. Don't see anywhere near Star Wars. Hell, Black Panther which was certainly a high spec book came in at 253,000 . You probably just have a few stores that ordered heavier than normal. Not seeing many here in south Florida. Nothing more than Batman #1 in comparison.

no way New superman is in Batman 1 range. Or Civil War II range. Or Star Wars range. Some stores just ordered heavy and some didn't order many (like mine). When star wars 1 came out all of my stores had tons of copies..not the case here. The one store that had a large stack didn't order any variants.

Hilarious.

No. Not a good comparison.

You just lost your credibility with that one....

Good luck.

Full disclosure: I bought a fluck ton, because I see potential.

Star Wars was Loot Crate and store exclusive skewed.

I'm thinking like you; that 250K would be heavy numbers for this book.

IMO (guesstimate) it will do around 200,000 and that might be a tad high. It is a Superman book after all and Superman #1 did 105,000 and Superman Rebirth #1 did 118,000 last month. Perhaps Larry can chime in with availability at Diamond for re-orders. IF they are already sold-out than you can be damn sure that the print run was in the 100,000-200,000 range

No, he didn't. He's just offering an opinion, based on what he's seeing in the stores around him. (shrug)

On one hand, spec on Rebirth is tough because Midtown is limiting to 1 per customer purchases a week before they hit the shelves. Its hard to image anyone wanting these books not being able to find them for cover or less.

On the other hand, all of these books have multiple covers. Assuming a somewhere close to equal printing for each of these, each Batman #1 cover would come in under the estimated distribution of New 52 Batman #1. While New 52 was big, the new writer on Batman is huge right this very second. New characters introduced in All New Super-man, Flash, and others. Frank Cho, Kenneth Rocafort, and Tim Sale are doing amazing variant covers. Superboy is relevant once again and many more reasons to believe that Rebirth might bring back some of the old readers who viewed New 52 as too soft. Bring back the heroes and guys flying to their deaths to save people on a plane with ropes.

Lot more pros than cons

The variant to #1 was out of print early last week.

Cover a #1 was out of print late last week.

There will be no reorders...

I'll plunk down 200,000 as my final print number.

and I feel great about my purchase.

There you have it. It's tough to sell out a book with 300,400,500,000+ print runs before release. With all the first appearances, cameos, and the market DC is angling for this SHOULD be a book to lock down and re-visit in 6 months. Yes, I understand most LOVE to flip but the play IMO is a bit longer.
