I speculated on this book because Time Warner appears to be marketing towards a very large customer base. China.

 

I took a shot based on that...

Betting it's a mid to long term hold BTW.

 

Oh, I know all about TW's plans with China. They're partners. Still doesn't mean squat for a Superman/Superboy knock-off.

Yeah, that's a pretty good question because it's not exactly as though the Chinese government really smiles upon dissenters or rebels or publications that present them in a positive light. While that government might have chilled out on some things (mostly financially), but they're still a pretty totalitarian regime that doesn't exactly seem as though they'd really be all that accepting of being portrayed as anything but the benevolent overlords that they think they are or claim to be.

 

Will this comic be traded in brown paper bags & sold behind the counter like smut? Will it be an underground comic in China? (And now I'm imagining some skeezy looking dude in a trench coat ala "8mm" trying to by a snuff movie)

maybe it will be banned which would make for some crazy press for the comic. If they edited out Kenan having to sign papers and Kenan's dad talking democracy it should be ok.

For giggles 150k print run...1.4 Billion people...worth a shot at trying to infiltrate the market don't you think?China is communist still BUT is certainly evolving. Very capitalistic and showing some signs of socialism.

wow wish I hadn't started this , How does every talk about print run, even the hypothetical guess ones blow up? Update.. I asked.. and the two stores had a total of 800 books come in. One had 250 of each cover, the other 150 . So yes I guess it was an exaggeration saying 1k books, but still looked like a mountain of books next to the 25 or so of the other covers that had come in.

 

I am not talking negatively about this book, as I said, I have around 50 of each book and think this book has fantastic long term chances

It's all politics. Rucka was outspoken against Cho's work with the Manara poses so he was pissed that DC brought him on to his book with Sharp. He's been lobbying to have him removed for a while even though the covers are rather tame compared to his others like the Cammy cover he has coming up.

Elektra had a different target audience.

 

Rucka has written plenty of mature material. My guess is his issue is that WW is more of a 'family' comic.
