Is this thread for record LOWS, too?

Imagine getting 5 slabbed CREEPYs (9.2, 9.0, 9.0, 9.0, 9.0) for a total of $55.  How much did it cost to slab comics in 2005?  Merry Christmas, somebody...

I mean at that price I’d be using them as dinner plates! :insane:

That was a long time ago but I think I was the buyer on one or two of those... the 129 in particular seems familiar.

I don’t recognize the format, but if those are Heritage results, figure in the $29 minimum fee on each one along with sales tax and shipping.

It’s also amazing the amount of money thrown away each year by people grading things they will lose money on in the end. Big dreams I suppose.

I forgot to check the Heritage offerings last week so I tried to check it out last night, I logged on to the live stream more or less by accident, I saw modern 9.8 Superman books (2012 I think) selling for a initial bid of $1, what is the :censored: point of slabbing such books?

Agreed! Is it any wonder the TATs at CGC are nuts with books like that comin in?😂

If you’ve ever won an item like this, you know that $11 turns into $50-60 before it’s delivered. Not the deal it seems at the hammer of the auction. The auction house is fine, the buyer probably overpaid, but the seller is very sad. Probably a $30-40 loss per book.

Yep.  Many are the times I lamented not winning 3 or 4 books instead of 1 trying to defray shipping costs.  My early days of Heritage buying were definitely bumpy. I still have an early purchase from Heritage (also an early purchase of a CGC book)- a copy of Doomsday +1 9, from the Don Rosa Collection in a green label (due to a missing staple) and I had no idea what a green label meant.  I think it cost me like $54 with shipping and BP which really rained on my day after I was all excited about winning it for like $13 or something.

In retrospect, that $54 was a relatively cheap lesson on multiple fronts.

Good grief, why is it that every book I'm interested in sells for some outrageous figure?

Raw CREEPY #10 goes for $160

I doubt that it's even a "real" 9.2 with that bend/crease on back, but sheesh, this seems more like a 9.6-9.8 price.

Are we on the threshold of exploding Warren prices these days?  I must admit, it adds a little pressure to find those last 3 issues I still need (10, 29, 44).

I would look for that #29 post haste, before the others.

Yeah, the last month I've only seen like VG copies at VF prices--but I look almost every day.  I'm not too stressed about #44, there are two or three I could snap up now, but I'm holding out for better.  I didn't think I'd have to stress over #10 all THAT much, but I've seen more than one copy go for more than I expected them to now (the other one was only like $56 or so), so I'm starting to worry.

The most I've paid for any single book in the three Warren runs is $45 for EERIE 17 (or if you include shipping/tax, the $77 to get EERIE 23 here from Belgium), so I wasn't hoping to set new records with the last three books I need to complete the sets--but seems like prices are going crazy lately!

Just got one for $5. Check that off the list.

This is one of those strained "congrats," with my teeth clenched together and all.

Five DOLLARS? You cant just say that and NOT give us the story....🤭

I saw your post. Googled Eerie 29 for sale and the rest is history. Ended up getting 15 books for about $50 all together.
