In a new profile from Variety, the Oscar-winning director applauded the risks taken with the R-rated superhero flick, even going [as far as] calling it "amazing."

"I liked 'Deadpool,' I thought that was amazing," Coppola told the trade. "Cinema is supposed to illuminate contemporary life, and make us understand what's going on. So we need the artists to give us a vision of what's going on."

The auteur has made a splash around superhero cinema for railing against the comic book-based films produced by Marvel.

"Personally I don't like the idea of franchises, the notion that you can keep repeating what is essentially the same movie for financial gain — in other words what is a formulaic approach," Coppola previously told Deadline. "I feel that approach is taken to reduce the economic risk of movies and I feel the 'risk factor' is an element that makes movies sometimes be great. Also the formulaic film draws most available resources to them, leaving little for more daring productions, reducing diversity."

"In some ways I think the cinema is like food; certainly you can add things to make it tempting, tasty and enjoyable but it must also be nutritious to qualify as real food," he added.

Really?

Not sure why I didn’t enjoy the first one as much as the second. I loved the lower budget aspect of it as it requires more from the story/actors. I mean I still bought both of them.

Old post, I know. I think that they're both hilarious, but DP2 is a touch funnier to me. They're pretty close in score for me, though.

i'm with this post down the line.  the parachuting scene is simply sublime.   my stomach hurt from laughing.    brolin's impatience in the not-quite-death scene at the end also spectacularly funny.

Deadpool 3 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed how Marvel Studios is allowing them to keep the Merc With a Mouth's vulgarity that became a winning formula over at 20th Century Fox. News on the third Deadpool movie has been slow to come by, though fans recently learned that Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy will reteam with Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool 3. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's involvement is also new information, though they are no strangers to Deadpool after penning the first two films' scripts. Since Disney is known as a family-first company, there's always been worry about how Deadpool's brand of raunchiness would make the transition to the Mouse House. Thankfully, Reese and Wernick confirmed Disney has been supportive in that regard.

"Don't worry about that," Reese told Den of Geek. "They've been very supportive with regard to that. Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we'll hear at some point, 'Maybe not that joke.' But I think they've been incredibly supportive of what we're doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they've seen the success and they've had their own even greater success. So hopefully it'll be a marriage made in heaven. But we've definitely got their support, and that's a great thing to feel."

Earlier in the interview, Reese discussed how it's been a joy working with Marvel to get the Deadpool crew back together at their new home. "It's a thrill," Reese said. "It's an absolute thrill to have the band back together, to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, new villains, that kind of thing. You know, it's never a marriage we necessarily saw coming—Fox and Disney, that was an external thing [separate] from our storytelling process. But we're absolutely finding the serendipity and the gold in that situation, or we're trying to."

Marvel Studios realized it screwed up initially. But at least it adjusted.

While speaking with The Playlist to discuss the Netflix thriller Spiderhead, writing duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick opened up about their Deadpool 3 returns. In looking at the MCU sequel originally being written by a different pair, the two addressed initially being replaced for the film, keeping mum on the details of the replacement and expressing their excitement for returning. See what Reese said below:

"Yeah, that did happen. And look…It just came down the way it did, but we're thrilled to be back is the bottom line. We just couldn't be happier where we are right now in the mad scientist lab creating fun stuff and hopefully, we'll get a movie out to you guys soon."

Deadpool 2 was terrible

Just awful

And to have wasted introducing Juggernaut in it, was a shame. THAT was the best thing about the movie. They did Juggernaut well

I thought Deadpool 2 reused too many jokes from the first film. That was my only problem with it.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are now doing press for Netflix's Spiderhead, which they wrote, and spoke to Post Cred Pod about the film and upcoming projects - including Deadpool 3. The podcast asked the writers for some information about the threequel, and while they could not say much about the direction Wade Wilson's story is taking, they teased some plot details. Reese described Deadpool 3's MCU story as a "fish-out-of-water" adventure centered around a lunatic.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water. Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun."
