Oh oh, who opened the tool box?

It's 'Uh-Oh', not 'Oh oh'.

At least get that right.  :roflmao:

Ps 'self awareness' is awareness of self-not others.  At least get that right.  :roflmao:

Actually it will get them close to 30K.....those three are just the slabbed books.  I figured thats all thats trackable.  The short boxes they took are at lease $25k + in comics.

They're all traceable if you can give us a list and/or some scans or pics.  If they walk into a store with a short of your books and a list of your books has circulated they're toast.  And good scans are like fingerprints.

I'm with shad on this one. Why in the world would someone bring 30K in books?

I'm sure the OP is kicking himself enough on this one. (tsk)

Someone has to ask this.

What were you thinking bringing $30,000 worth of comics to a meeting with strangers in a fast food parking lot?

That sucks that this happened and I hope you'll eventually recover the books.  Jeez...with $30k worth of books I would have at least ask to meet in a Red Lobster parking lot.

What are you talking about here? Ive met and sold with 50-60k worth of books.  It was a public place in front of what I thought was cameras that would see everything.  I didnt meet them in a back ally.  That was a collection that I had bought and flipped 50k of it already.  These were the left overs.

After reading this I just deleted a craigslist posting I had going, very doubtful anyone is going to try and rob me of cheap comics but if I let them in my home and they case my place they could always come back...just not worth the b.s.

I was laughing when someone I had contacted suggested a meet up at a mall but now I kind of get it.

Glad to hear you're all good though! You never know what a desperate criminal might be willing to do!

You can always try to meet outside a police station or other super public area, maybe a busy post office or bank so there's cameras or additional security or charges that can be filed.

Or don't meet anyone, that's obviously safer

I hate that this happened to you and I'm PO'd that this is becoming the new norm with comics since values have reached that level but I think the real lesson here is that we can no longer be casual when selling comics or really anything else of value greater than 5k no matter how innocent of an item it may seem.

My friend, you may have just been lucky or enjoyed the benefit of a period of innocence selling in those previous times if you did those kinds of deals in front of a Carl's jr.

My biggest craigslist purchase was for $1600 4 years ago and the guy was very careful to meet in the security office of his apartment building.

My biggest in person purchase was for a run of OO ASM 1-117 5 years ago for $10,000 held at a trusted comic shop. The owner had a barretta 9mm on hand, closed the shop and locked the doors during the transaction. He provided escort for me to my car.

My biggest sale over $10,000 was initiated on these very boards in PM and the transaction was conducted in person at baltimore comiccon at a dealers booth but only after performing extensive research on the individual and their reputation.  I had also brought along some muscle to escort me from the convention hall to the bank across the street to deposit the funds.

I think you get my point. If you do in person transactions with items of value exceeding $500+ no matter if from CL or FB or on here, ALWAYS take precautions to ensure the transaction can be completed safely and in a manner and an area that would deter any form of violence or theft.
