Popular Post Point Five
For those of you keeping score at home , I'm now halfway through collecting the Frazetta FF run. Right now I have #210, 213, 214 and #216... and need #209, 211, 212 and #215. (Looking for 'presentable copies on a budget'... you know the drill.) The earlier issues have always been pretty common, so I'm hoping the #215 will be the only real challenge. Yes, there's a clear distinction between the earlier portion of the Frazetta FF run from the latter portion which is clearly evident in the prices realized and I noticed that Overstreet finally got around to recognizing this fact in his latest edition of the guide. Not sure if he got the breakdown exactly right though as he grouped Famous Funnies 212 to 214 together with a top of guide valuation of $8K and the rest of the Frazetta run with a top of guide valuation of only $4K. Personally, I would have broken it down into 3 groups with the top grouping being FF 213 & FF 214, followed by FF 212 & FF 215-216; and then with the much more common FF 209 to 211 in another grouping. Yep! That sounds exactly right. I think there used to be a folk wisdom that FF #215 was the scarcest, but oddly there's been a relative flood of them for sale in the last year or two... hopefully that's good news for me. lou_fine

(Looking for 'presentable copies on a budget'... you know the drill.) Well, in this same CL Auction that just finished up last week, you could have gotten this very "presentable" copy of Famous Funnies 209: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FPREVIEW.ASP%3Fcode%3D2022aug%26x%3D40%26y%3D8%26pg%3D5%23Item_1593802&id=1593802&itemType=0 Then again, although it is substantially cheaper than the FF 215 given that this is a CGC 9.0 graded copy, I am not sure if the $4,050 price point would qualify as "on budget". Then again, it does come with one of those CVA stickers attached onto the slab. (If the CVA sticker is meant to indicate 'outstanding example of grade', they should make an alternate sticker to indicate "TERRIBLE example of grade"!) Definitely a fair result! I agree with P5, I do like the colors (a deep emerald green color strike and red on the trade dress scores extra on this book 🤤) and overall structure of this copy, but the crease leaves much to be desired in the cover presentation! Following up the 6.0 Frazetta estate copy that ended up at $9K on Heritage in July, the consignor might have hoped for more? 🤔 I’ve always felt 215 should be held among the most desirable copies in the run with 213 and 214. It’s staying strong 💪 Point Five, Mmehdy, Inaflash and 1 other
Popular Post Point Five
After a long drought, I finally have a couple of new Frazetta Famous Funnies to post. Yay! First up is this #209 that I busted out of its CGC 4.0 slab... the book obviously presents way better, with deep rich color strike and beautiful gloss. Really hard to believe it wasn't graded 4.5 or 5.0. (It looked stressed out in there!) lou_fine, Treco, buttock and 10 others
Popular Post Point Five
And here's the second one, a Famous Funnies #211. I passed up quite a few lower-grade copies of this issue this year, hoping for one with nice rich colors. (I think I've found it!) Sometimes that background is kind of a pale pink with a worn look, but this one has that nice magenta snap to it that really sets off the linework. So that's six down and two more to go... just need a #212 and #215 and I've got the full set. fifties, lou_fine, Funnybooks and 15 others

Agreed that that's long been the case, but oddly there's been quite a few #215s for sale in the past year, with 3-4 low-grade copies up on ebay since the summer... maybe not 'the perfect copies' but nice to see they're out there at least. Based on the past year or so of looking, I'd say #213 may be the toughest *right now*... few copies for sale and prices shot up hard. But with some patience they're all out there. goldust40
