And all aboard as the L.B. Cole Mask express train just keeps on rolling along at full steam ahead.  (thumbsu

Well, although the Mask 1 is still riding high in the Premium First Class section of the L.B. Cole Express train, it looks like the Suspense 8 just got booted off the much overcrowded Economy Coach cattle car section of the train and only managed to get a refund of $9,300 after paying a whopping $14,400 to get on board back in November of last year:  :(

Golden Age (1938-1955):Horror, Suspense Comics #8 (Continental Magazines, 1945) CGC FN- 5.5 Cream to off-white pages....

What the frack.............OUCH, OUCh, OUch, Ouch, ouch..........:tonofbricks:

I have a theory on that.  Both were sold thru Heritage, but the first sale occurred before Heritage started including CGC grader notes in their book description.  The grader notes were a bit daunting, and are exactly the reason I didn't make a bid this time around.  These grader notes were not included in the book description for the first Heritage sale, and I don't think all bidders had checked them.  Thus the higher gavel price earlier.

Of course, it's only a theory, and it may be nothing more than a reflection of the marketplace turmoil.

The grader notes stated "whole book lite foxing".

Those darned Notes again........maybe Heritage might just have to rethink their strategy of including the informative and much appreciated Graders Notes, similar to how CGC removed notes from thier labels years ago as that was seen like a negative red flag to potential buyers.  hm

Then again, like you had alluded to in terms of market turmoil, it could also just be trying to come back to market too soon with the third bidder in the last go round being nowhere close to the Top 2 bidders who were fighting it out for the book.  (shrug)

At $9,300 though, still a relatively strong price for a mid-grade copy from my own personal point of view.  (thumbsu

The 3.0 with OW pages on HA is doing well with a week to go at $7,500

A bunch of other Cole highly sought after books coming up too, and in nice shape.  Even with multiple copies some issues up at the same time, which is interesting.  I'm wondering if with all of these books some of the ending bids will be a bit lower because of that.

This is one I'm watching closely, nice copy and an underrated cover:

That is a phenomenon I have questioned myself. I think there are competing philosophies on this. One is the larger the group of books sharing some commonality (like Schomburg, ECs, Matt Bakers, or in this case LB Cole) builds up more excitement and brings out more money. The other philosophy is to split such books up into separate auctions to give bidders a chance to reload their wallets

id like to hear what thoughts others may have on this. The time will come for each of us to cut bait

I saw a 7.0 in a show this last weekend for 20k but still think this did pretty good

Did it sell for that price?

Also at the Heritage Auction today, Mask Comics #1 3.0 sold for $13.8K, last sale $9.6K in June 2021, 4.0 sold in March 2022 for $11.4K.  Mask Comic #2 4.0 sold for $12K, last 2 sold for over $14K.  The #1 seems like a strong price, but the #2 is good, but probably disappointing for the seller.

I'm not sure if the book sold but they had it priced high and the Mask's are all doing fine from what i see.(thumbsu

On a side note, Catman #28 is one of the more notoriously HTF Cole books out there.  However there were just 2 copies up for grabs that ended last week and I just saw this in upcoming auctions - again all on the same day!

All are in low grade, but that's a bunch of copies out there all at once.  (FYI - no pics up for these just yet)

With about 4 hrs to go in tonight’s CC auction, this is sitting at $5200, which is right around GPA. Wonder if there’s still some gas left in the tank
