While I am a dyed in the wool goldenage guy first and foremost now, I came up on bronze and copper age books. 

Here's what I will say about this book (**and this is not my copy, nor do I know who consigned it). Hard as it is to imagine for anyone who came up on comics during the 90's or later, the period between say 1975 and early 80's DC comics had a stigma of being seen as 'childish, corny and or not 'hip'.

I discovered super heroes by way of the Superfriends,  Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter), Shazam / Isis Hour, and my folks introducing through reruns Batman (Adam West) and Superman (George Reeves) to my brother and myself. Superman 78 is still to me the greatest superhero movie ever made. So i was a DC guy even though my first comic was a Marvel comic oddly enough purchased for me by my late Aunt Eloise. While Spider-Man was 'around' through Electric Company, a short lived live action primetime show, newspaper strips and reruns of the 60's cartoon (and later the Hulk), DC was the juggernaut at that time of their heroes making headway in other mediums outside of comics.

Anyway, I set all that up to say, I remember swap meets and lunch time comic sharing, bringing my stack of Super Friends, Justice League of America, Green Lantern, Flash and dreading to hear the one line over and over again "You still read DC?!?!" I remember a kid lending a copy of X-Men 122 and saying, here read this. It was different, but I still wasn't 'sold' on Marvel yet.  lol, I was probaly 11 or 12 when at one park meet up someone said 'DC sucks, except for The New Teen Titans". Two more chimed in "True". This intrigued me. I asked to borrow his copies of TNTT 1 to 6 and was blown away. I guickly became a fan and the run was so successful DC actually had a comic that challenged Marvels top tile , The X-Men.

I could go more in to depth about their meteoric rise, but dont want to go on too long. But I'd go as far as to say DC Comics Presents #26 changed DC's fortunes. If George Perez along with Marv Wolfman had not taken this assignment (he reportedly is on record that he really wanted to do primarily the JLA for DC) who knows where the company would be now. The book was so successful DC tasked the creative team with taking that momentum and high profile to revamp their entire universe (Crisis on Infinite Earths) to give a clean slate to their dated characters and attract new readers and hard core Marvel fans to come on board. 

Soon John Byrne jumped ship to DC and revamped Superman, and who knows if Frank Miller would have come to DC to revamp Batman ( who at that time still 'suffered' from the shadow of the Batman 60's show (even with Denny O Neil and Neal Adams returning the character to darker roots), as did the pereception of comics in general to outsiders) if the Titans hadnt bought luster back to the publisher. The Dark Knight and later Batman 89 changed all that for Batman, and DC comics was a contender again.

But it all began with the publication of DC Comics Presents #26. Yes, every comic age has its milestone books. This is one of them for its age and the book is long overdue to catchup with its Marvel contemporaries of the time price wise and 'hold'. I'll go to mat for my New Teen Titans, lol! They made those meet ups a lot more enjoyable 😉 

Now, back to our regularly scheduled goldenage programming.

I should be grateful that people chase these books, less competition for GA gems.

Oh heck yeah. Truth is I'm surprised more collecters who are into Silver Age and newer haven't switched their attention to GA's. Glad they haven't.

Exactly right. At the time, the only other strong seller for DC was probably LSH.

WOW. Just browsed the auction- the selection of Timely marvels & capt americas etc,  and the planets totally blew me away.  Many I've never seen in auction before. Unbelievable "heroes fighting and being tortured by monster villains" covers (yes, that's a sub-genre in my database).   Wondering if a mega buyer is going to sweep through those like what happened during the promise auctions.  I would for sure.

Yes to all this!   A much more polished presentation of what I was thinking. And if you jumped into the New Teen Titans run a year or two late (I did too), DCCP #26 (hard as it may be to believe today) was one of those milestone books that always seemed out of reach... if you could find one at all in the 80s it was up on some LCS wall at quadruple the price you could afford. Loosely analogous to X-Men #94, in a sense.

Personally I think there is a good argument (like a lot of other people think) that DC Comics Presents 26 is the first Copper age book.

Yes, that's about right. That was a lot of money for a comic at that age back then, lol.

And I agree, it certainly should be the book age usher book!

From my POV, not so much XM94, but DCP 26 is really much more like GSXM 1as both of those books were the first appearance of New Teen Titans and the new group of X-Men respectively.  

In that sense, New Teen Titans 1 is more loosely analagous to X-Men 94 as they were the start of the ongoing series for both teams.

Not sure about a mega buyer scooping up all of these GA beauties that you are talking about, but it certainly does look like a mega consignor who had consigned the large majority of these GA books to CL for this auction here:

Good to see some of the other competing auction houses getting their hands on some of the quality GA books for auction, because it's never good for the consumer if there's a monopoly.  Especially if it's a Heritage monopoly and much better to spread the wealth around a bit, although I am a bit surprised it's CL as opposed to CC although they are making great strides in moving up the GA food chain.

Not gonna lie, my reasons for going with CL had nothing to do with looking out for the consumer!  

I've sold a few things in the past through CL and everything was at or above the GPA comparables of the time.  And so far, everything to do with the sale has been top notch on CLs end. 

I guess if in a few weeks everyone is talking about the sweet deals they got in this auction I'll know I screwed up, but for now I'm happy to be consigning in this auction!

You've got the good stuff.  Prices will be somewhere between strong and insane.  I don't think it would matter which of the big 3 auction houses you used.

Oh, come on guys, the old GA fogeys always wait until the end before they show their hand........................now with the FF5, I will say that's about the one and only single SA book that I've ever wanted since it features the first appearance and origin of Doctor Doom.    

Now, if it was a copy of that Transformers 1 that was sitting up there at the top after the first day, then I would totally agree with you.
