When I bought a copy of this many years ago, I was quite happy to find that the quality of the interior art on the story was worthy of Maneely's cover. I had never heard of Tumlinson, and still don't know anything about him.

Seeing all these great splash pages has me wishing Marvel would put out a best of Atlas compendium. Picking up the odd issue here and there along with title specific Masterworks is good and all, but story-wise 90% of Atlas output is pretty forgettable, and it would be a joy to have a collection of some superior artist/story combinations ( from a variety of genres) all in one place.

Is it everything from roughly June 1950 ( cover dates) when the Marvel bullet logo had been dropped, photo covers ended, and the familiar inset panels began to appear along the spine?

That marks fairly well the start of the period of interest to me. Still, I like books published a little later. Essentially, I like the period that starts to include titles and artists later recognizable. In the very late '40's and that early '50's, there are still plenty of contributors and titles that are transitory, here today gone next month so the creators are forgotten (and also not IDed) and titles are not remembered. So, yes, mid-1950 on up but with more interest starting circa 1951 and on.

You haven't mentioned them but two of my favorites at Atlas are:

Jack Katz, esp. on War stories

and

Chuck Miller, esp. on Western stories

..... I forgot Katz...... I've only got one book with his work, it's good. Miller I haven't had the pleasure of seeing yet. In case anyone doesn't know..... many of these scans came from you originally (worship) GOD BLESS...
