I've had some very interesting conversations with Dylan. Unfortunately, he doesn't accept constructive feedback well and always seems to slide back into the same self-destructive pattern. In my opinion, he's incapable of changing his behavior, and this is just another pitiful attempt to bully or belittle someone in order to get what he wants...

I logged on this morning to run through the 'all activity' list and it's Dylan all the way, again. 

Personally, I don't understand why CGC are so reluctant to ban members using their own moderation framework. Here it is, by the way:

Aside of the general havoc that he causes here, if Dyan has stated publicly that his intention is to take CGC to court and 'destroy' them, then does that not merit the use of the strongest moderation tool, i.e.:

"Unacceptable behavior - 18 points, no expiration (like the old instant ban)"

If Dylan had been banned at that point, we might not be here now. We might be discussing comics instead.  These threads have some entertainment value of course, in a slowing down on the motorway to look at a car crash kind of way, but ultimately they just cast an ever growing stink about the place, dominate the tone and strengthen the likelihood of more draconian measures being applied in the future which affect us all.

Nice write up though, Domo. Hopefully this HOS nomination will focus CGC's moderation mind and hasten Dylan's exit.

I would support a lifelong ban of this person. I don’t really think he adds anything to these forums other than these type of threads.

Will never buy from him. Will never sell to him. Will never recommend him. A major beware sign attached to Dylan. Sometimes, your interactions go well and others, unfortunately, like this. This seems to be the trend though and that is concerning .

I thought I might run into Dylan in person tomorrow at a local show but I have been told at least 5 of the dealers will not sell to him anymore. And he doesn't go to this location too often but hits the northern NJ shows more apparently. In the past I had expressed hope that he would become dylantheman but he seems intent on burning down the house. Reading the texts I was alarmed at the sudden shift in his tone and words. It is all ugly so far, but if he chooses to start on a new and better path it is never too late to be better.

I've only been active on these here boards for about 3 months or so, and this is now the 3rd (4th if you count Dylan's ridiculous post yesterday) of these sorts of posts I've seen. It's a bit disconcerting if I'm being honest. I'm not spending, or selling anything for, mass amounts of money here as of yet. But, I have been a semi regular peruser of sales threads and even started one of my own (go me!). This sort of stuff doesn't instill a lot of confidence. 

It's cool that the community does self regulate, but it's not so cool that is has to so often. Is this normal? Or are we just hitting the crest of a wave here?

Polonsky does not actually know how Dylan got his fathers phone number.  He said he has met Dylan at shows, and Dylan knows he works alone on the comics as his dad knows nothing about them.  He does not remember ever giving Dylan a business card....which are not comic related anyway.  The cards are for their Rare Coin and Medal business.  He said Dylan may have also tracked down their coin website and found the number there.....but he honestly doesn't know.

Either way, Dylan only started calling Polonsky's father after Polonsky told him to cease all attempts at communication.  So, I'm going to let the nomination post stand as it is.

In my experience I have argued on behalf of almost every type of behavior but with DTK I’m at a loss.  Perhaps a defense based upon incapacity...  The “growing stink” comment made by Get Marwood & I is right on.

I have the utmost confidence that if/when Dylan does return to defend/justify his actions on this thread, that the stink will become all consuming and that the nomination will be all but a foregone conclusion

There's a unstated 'or else' .  Talk to me and I will leave you alone, otherwise it won't be peaceful.  It's a threat and posting this crud on instagram to attack Polonski's rep is probably the or else.

So, Dylan. I tried to stay out of most of the Dylan threads. Occasionally, I joked around in them like most of us. At least once, I tried to directly engage him and offer serious, legitimate advice to help him stop digging.

Does he need to be on the Hall? For me, easy yes.

We "met" Dylan with the character label debacle. I, like many others, believe he found -- and intentionally exploited -- what amounts to a bug in CGC's QA process. If he did, if that was entirely intended, it was little more than an effort to defraud the collecting community. And that would have been worthy of the Hall. But maybe it wasn't, so Dylan remained.

We argued with him about restoration disclosures, and trimming. For my part, I don't think trimming is "restoration" either, exactly, but I'd sure as  disclose a trimmed book. Dylan argued semantics. Someone who promised to intentionally obfuscate trimmed books would probably wind up on the Hall. But Dylan relented, although still claiming the high ground. Still, it was enough, and Dylan remained.

We took a look at his grading practices, and saw reprehensible overgrading. Dylan himself admitted that was something of a breaching experiment to see what would actually drive returns. Again, in my mind, that's a fraud on the community. But consensus was it was Dylan's business and reputation that would count the cost, so Dylan remained.

Along the way, he got into an ugly personal dispute with CGC, who runs these boards, spewing ill-considered but quotable memes and issuing (probably spurious) legal threats. I've moderated boards elsewhere in the nonsensical landscape of the internet, and everywhere I have (and nearly anywhere I've posted!) anyone making legal threats against the board owner would earn a one-way trip to Bantown. But not from CGC, it seems, so Dylan remained. This spilled over into ugly fights with others (Danielle, for example), that may very well have constituted interference with THEIR businesses. But it didn't happen here, on these boards, and so Dylan remained.

And now we have what I quoted up there. When Dylan gets to respond, he'll probably say that wasn't actually a threat. But Dylan says a lot of things that aren't true. Because I think we all know how that was intended. And the phone calls? Maybe that rises to the level of harassment. Maybe it doesn't. But it isn't any more acceptable either way. Is this "interfering with a business"? You know, again? Probably. But it shouldn't matter what we call it. Dylan's behavior was unacceptable when he first attracted attention. It has been unacceptable the entire time since. It is unacceptable now. He has shown a willingness to defraud the community even if he rode technicalities such that he didn't quite cross the line. He's shown an eagerness to take fights off the boards and, now, into real life. Over and over, he's violated social norms, alienated people from our community, and generally made a heel of himself. And he's remained.

It's time to show that, at this late hour, even if Dylan seemingly knows no shame, that he still belongs in its Hall.
