I've always thought the price differences between a 9.4/9.6/9.8 to be ridiculous

There is are differences between a 9.4 and 9.8, but between 9.6, not many

Well, how about a 9.0 and a 9.8 then?

Well, given that grading is still more of an art (i.e. a so-called "professional" opinion at a particular point in time), as opposed to an actual science, wouldn't it make much more sense to simply sub books that will still have value whether it comes back as CGC 9.4, CGC 9.6, or CGC 9.8, instead of only subbing books that have value in CGC 9.8 and above.  Even more so when you have to take in CGC's probable margin of error when it comes to grading.  hm  (shrug)

To each their own, but wouldn't it make more sense to sub a book that has actual value regardless of the grade within reason, as opposed to subbing for a grade when the underlying book doesn't have any worthwhile value if it doesn't hit that grade.  I guess it's really a case of if you are truly collecting comic books or are you really only collecting graded labels.  hm  (thumbsu

I agree completely. Unfortunately there are hundreds of thousands of less-than-year-old books being sent in this year for grading and probably nearly all of them are "9.8 or bust" books.

Hopefully these new pricing changes will reduce that considerably so that books like you mention that have a positive collectible value even in well under 9.8 can be graded and returned in a reasonable time.

There is a lot to digest and calculate based on the volume and grading tier of submissions and what makes the most sense for you going forward.

However, the one that is the biggest kick in the breadbasket, and affects all submitters, is the 50% increase to hope your comics come back in a semi-reasonable amount of time (aka fast track aka less than 6 months).

Is it unreasonable to ask to remove fast track as an option completely and try to do all jobs in a timely fashion?

Now that more cash is coming:

(CCG) is actively looking to hire dozens of employees across all branches. Positions range from entry level, to specialist and management positions. Plus to sweeten the deal, we're upping our previous sign-on bonus from $1,000 to $2,500!

From my limited, recent exposure to the current market, I have concluded that it's dominated by speculators and flippers who ONLY care about 9.8.  They couldn't care less what book it is.  People are buying and flipping the grade which of course causes an artificial bubble.  This will eventually end in a crash so if you are in it solely for the money I wouldn't be holding onto anything.  You may never see peaks like this again.  But I'm wise enough to know I could be wrong and maybe the so called market has fundamentally and permanently transformed and collectors will no longer set the true value of a book.  Time will tell.

Good to know Rich! The live listings aren’t my cup of tea but am sure they have been a boon for sales.

OK I swear I read half this thread and I’m trying to find the answer to a question.

If I fill out the online submission form today, but I press them using my local guy and then send my books 3 weeks from now and they are received a few days later (But not logged into their system for a few weeks after that), Do I get the old pricing?

Has anybody called and asked CGC the specific question?

it really depends

on

what membership that you're submitting under, that is all that matters (thumbsu

All current memberships are good at the rate they are, until they run out, any member ships purchased before 4/28 are also good until they expire in a year

any submission forms that are printed out before 4/28 and the books arrive before May 28th are also good at the current rate.....

that's the best we know so I hope that helps somewhat

which brings up a question myself, if I purchase a membership before 4/28 and it's good till it expires, why do I need to do a submission form before 4/28 and get it post marked as shipped before 5/28?

unless the prices will still go up by 5/28 but the membership of Premium will still give a 10% discount if purchased before 4/28, but will only be 10% off the new prices ie Modern at $22 instead of $20?
