this might be the #1 movie on the boards

I really don't see how/why people love this movie so much

it's enjoyable but the way it's revered (shrug)

It’s a good fun by-the-numbers prison movie. Bad Boys with Sean Penn was a better prison movie.

I try to compare movies to the feeling I got when I left a nearly perfect movie.  There are a few that left me stunned and wanting to turn around and watch it again since it took me on a complete ride.  My list of perfect movies are:

Goonies

Matrix (First)

Braveheart

Avatar (3-D Viewing)

I'd challenge Cinematography, but it's been sometime since I've seen it

I'll take another look

a friend once told me, it's called moving pictures for a reason. Visually it needs to be appealing. Whether that's through how it's filmed or what is filmed.

As an example, Hitchcock films are brilliant in that regard.

Goodfellas hits 5/5 for me.

Not on cinematography, apart from maybe the concert sequences, but it performs brilliantly in most aspects, which is impressive enough for a film with so much improvisation.

I think that movie is gangster cinema gold. So much character buildup leading to the third act payoff.

Split Second was nowhere near close to being perfect. And not an 80’s movie either. But I enjoyed it.

My bad.  Memory not so good anymore.  No cheating here.... and thanks for the heads up(worship)

Here is one film i really like and it has to a 80s movie...

Good Morning Vietnam

The slam-dunks for me are the first two Godfather films and King Kong (1933).

Perfection is a difficult term to use, but I'm tempted to use it for:

True Romance. Quentin Tarantino wrote that and Reservoir Dogs around the same time, and sold True Romance to fund production of Reservoir Dogs. Tony Scott bought True Romance and directed it. I fell in love with it five minutes in and have re-watched it numerous time. Great story, phenomenal casting and terrific music by Hans Zimmer.

Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back.

Goodfellas, Casino, The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Departed - I can't pick a Scorsese favorite, so all of these or none for me.

Ditto for Tarantino. Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill (both), The Hateful Eight.

Coen Brothers. Miller's Crossing, Blood Simple, Fargo.

Christopher Nolan. Dark Knight Trilogy.

MCU. Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War.

Million Dollar Baby.

Comedy? Young Frankenstein, Airplane, Naked Gun, Caddyshack.
