If there is a movie that is close to perfect...

Misery_(1990_film_poster).png.e66f957e108bf2bb888faa427f7d800c.png

...Misery is her name.

Fantastic casting, intense story, perfect soundtrack that forces your emotions to the highest heightened levels of fear and surprise, and a very relatable theme concerning the most extreme level of fandom.

9.5/10 for me. ^^

One of the best scenes imo. Kathy Bates absolutely nails ‘crazy’

Godfather & Apocalypse Now could've gone on my list. The Exorcist. Josie Wales.

What are couple perfect movies since 1980? By perfect I mean more than really good. So please, no Little Mermaid, fellas.

The Outlaw Josie Wales? I am a little surprised by that from you, but I would agree 100%. It is a fantastic movie.

12 Monkeys has always been a movie that captures me in many ways.

Alien.

I've been slowly hunting for a Misery Digital Copy in HD blu-ray as they were only released for a short period. So when I finally found one for $7 with the three postcard inserts as well - and the Digital Copy still active - I couldn't hit BUY NOW soon enough.

ALIENS

The Sixth Sense

Glory

Saving Private Ryan

Silence of the Lambs

The LOTR Trilogy

Boyz 'n the Hood

The Usual Suspects

Pulp Fiction

Jackie Brown

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Almost Famous

I'm not going back through 10 pages, but has Requiem For A Dream been mentioned yet? I feel like that definitely deserves a spot.

1980, I think.

The also rans are rather perfect, like Blade Runner, but excluded from the top 10 due to excessive violence. The Exorcist, for example, is a movie I'll never watch again during my lifetime & haven't seen in 20 years, but is perfect. I included the Road Warrior for a bit of controversy.

I didn't consider foreign films, like Ghibli stuff.

As cliche as it might be...

I think The Shawshank Redemption is a perfect movie from the --script, delivery, cinematography (that beginning sweeping overhead shot of the prison moving toward you contrasted with the overhead shot of the ending beach scene as it pulls away), the musical score, pacing, and editing.

A few movies immediately came to mind that were not mentioned and whether or not they are perceived as 'perfect movies' is obviously debatable but perhaps they come to mind because they are near perfect or just that damn good.

  • Wall-E
  • City of God - That movie set in the favelas
  • No Country for Old Men
  • Forrest Gump
  • 12 Angry Men
  • Moana (Before that I would have said the Lion King)
  • Casablanca
  • It's a Wonderful Life
  • The Dark Knight
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I am adding Coco to this list.  I recently rewatched it and found it just as memorable and meaningful as I did years ago.

Coco 2017 - Pixar... Dare I say Coco might have been in the top three Disney Pixar movies?

I was also curious to see where it stands on Rotten Tomatoes...

97% on the Tomatometer with a 94% Audience Score...

Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty good.

A lot of these are perfect movies.. I think I saw Back to the Future mentioned a while back.. that's another home run. How about a film like Kingpin (1996). A lot of Farrelly Bros rom coms for bruised romantics are flawed but still enjoyable

Each to his/her own.  Some objective criteria would be interesting.  Is that even possible?

Having said that, these are:

Hobson's Choice

The Family Man

Edge of Tomorrow

Ooh these are good. Edge is good. I was just thinking about how great Cage was in The Family Man. How about The Weather Man and Matchstick Men
