ttfitz
Last total - 129 of 1000 Let's start this update with the follow up to the previous one, the concluding issue of.. Seven Secrets #18 Have to say, once again, I really loved this series. Great finale to a great series, highly recommended. Global Frequency #1-12 Went for a little Warren Ellis, and once again he delivers. A group of folks of all different backgrounds, with a variety of skills, who step in to handle a crisis when no one else can. A fun concept, and I wish it had run longer. Shirtless Bear-Fighter #1-5 What can I say? One of the folks at my LCS was a big fan of this book, and with a new storyline coming out, was talking about it and recommended it. Let's see, how can I say this - this was possibly the most ridiculous book I've ever read. And it was fabulous. I was already well on board with the "BEAR PUNCH!" sequences, but when he was fighting bears in Chicago and San Francisco, I think I fell in love. So, not for those who can't handle a little lot of ridiculous stuff, but still, you should check it out (available on Hoopla, most likely from your local library) At this point in my reading, I got on a AWA run - I came for the and stayed for the Frank Cho. First up, the books that introduced the shared universe that many of the titles exist in: The Resistance #1-6 The Resistance: Reborns One Shot The Resistance: Uprising 1-6 J. Michael Straczynski gives us the playground - a world where a deadly world-wide pandemic (conceived and written before the actual real-world event, but published right in the middle of it) kills almost everyone that gets it - and it's also highly contagious, so a large percentage of the planet gets it. For the small percentage who survive an infection, the virus causes changes in their DNA, and they get "super-powers" of various types and strengths. There is no cure, the future looks bleak, and then, suddenly, it just ... stops. And no one (well, almost no one) knows why. JMS gives us a world reeling from the numerous deaths, and not sure how to deal with the suddenly powerful survivors. Some really good stuff here, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. Moths #1-6 Another book from JMS, set in the Resistance world, with an interesting premise - if you knew you could get super-powers (but not what) but it meant you would only have six months to live after, what would you do? "Moths" is the term used for these folks, people who are aware that they have latent powers from the virus, but to activate them means a death sentence. Another really good series in the AWA shared universe. Telepaths #1-6 JMS again, although this title doesn't appear to be part of the Resistance world. A powerful solar flare causes a not insignificant minority of people to develop telepathic (and other mental) abilities. How will the world change when privacy is a thing of the past? And how will the non-telepathic majority react to this turn of events? Looking forward to this one continuing. Primos #1-4 Comedian and first generation American of Mexican descent, Al Madrigal, offers us this tale of how the ancient Mayans developed a space ship and discovered a galactic organization devoted to protecting the galaxy from a great evil. The Mayan astronauts return to Earth to prepare against this evil threat, only to find (due, apparently, to mistakes made in plotting their return trip) that centuries have passed, their great civilization is in ruins, and their people no longer remain. One is trying to complete their mission, the other has only revenge for their losses on his mind. Not a whole lot gets done here, it's largely setup, so I'm hoping it continues, it shows a lot of promise. Fight Girls #1-5 "10 women. 4 challenges. 1 crown. Winner rules the empire." So, while that sounded interesting, I figured this was largely an opportunity for Frank Cho to display his Good Girl Art to the fullest. And it is. But there's some interesting story here, and a fun twist or two along the way. Worth the read. E-Ratic #1-5 Another in the AWA shared Resistance world, the first I didn't really care much for. Teen gets super-powers that he can only use 10 minutes every 24 hours. Has pretty much every cliche of the shy, nerdy, picked on teen hero that got perfected in the Spider-Man books, which is okay, but it really doesn't do much of anything new with it. It wasn't really bad, but nothing that made me sign up for the new series being solicited as we type. So that's it - up next, I start tomorrow on my LCS's 100 Back Issue a Week Challenge, so over the next 5 weeks I should have updates on my reads and the numbers will start climbing. I'm going back to my Anniversary theme this year, so I'll be doing things like Spider-Man (1962), Spawn (1992), Thunderbirds (1997), probably the original Valiant Universe (1992), and much much more! So let's see, we start the Challenge with ... 186 under my belt. See you next week.... Raze and RayJr
ttfitz
Catching up on everyone else's posts.... @RayJrLoved those All Star Squadron books back in the day. And see you've picked up the Thor's again. @cgcsketcherzA lot of fun DC comics there, can't remember how Superman getting struck out by a Little Leaguer helped save the world, but do remember it was a lot of goofy fun. Superman created special balls to somehow distort a satellite/destroy the threat from an alien invasion. Had he hit the baseball it would have caused an explosion so the kid had a really lucky day pitching. ttfitz

All-Star Squadron was by far my favorite DC title in the 80’s. I learned a lot about the Golden Age characters through this series. They need to start it back up. Yea man, I wanted to get back on the Thor run because come 30 August, the movers come and pack us up for our last move through the Army. I won’t be reading anything from my collection for at least 3 weeks Miket123, ttfitz and cgcsketcherz

srezvan
278 comics so far this year. Did some reading while on the road. GI Joe Vol 8 - some interesting storylines with the turmoil within Cobra. Better than the previous volume. I don't have #9, so I need to keep hunting that one down :-( Batman: Secrets - great art and story from Sam Kieth. Nice companion piece to The Killing Joke. Berserk Vol 5, 6, and 7 - awesome. Very graphic and probably not for everyone, but it's such a good series. RayJr and Raze
