Some observations:

  • Sellers have over-graded books well before ebay existed. I think a lot of people who’ve entered the hobby after the advent of CGC, or that can’t recall the pre-2000 hobby, forget how often sellers at shows (or mail order) would substantially overgrade.

I havent forgotten. It was the predominant business model for comic dealers - NM if I'm selling, VG if I'm buying. And we're talking about the same book btw.  That's not even getting into deliberate undisclosed resto.

With the advent of Ebay giving all of us access to each others books, slabbing was a foregone conclusion. But the speed with which the lowly mark grabbed for CGC like a lifeline, this our beloved professional class helped bring into fruition.

If you simply drop them a message, they will probably change their ads.

I actually messaged the seller and asked if the 9.2 in the title was a mistake, and he got super offended, reminded me that I'm not a professional grader, and "politely" told me to go away. :screwy:

To be fair, the seller’s name is shipwrekd69, so again I suspect NM refers to its status as an example of a certain pedigree collection I’ve mentioned before.

The comic itself, of course, looks like it’s suffered an onslaught.

Title indicated that the comic was "NM+" which I think it would be except for those cat scratches on the spine. Definitely not the worst of the others posted here, just thought the + was funny w/ that kind of damage.

You want someone to say that the cat scratches are permissible in that grade because of the adamantium claws, but I'll resist the temptation.

Great claw vs damage positioning, though.

I was thinking FeVEr, as in cat-scratch-fever, plays air guitar, but I restrained myself.

Until now when I didn't 😂

I know a few Ted Nugent song titles, but never listened to any of his stuff.

Never particularly popular here in the UK.

Me either really, it's catchy, but that's all I think about it really :)

Even from the song titles I could sense a degree of subtlety and intellect that didn't appeal to me at all.

I love when sellers over grade then provide so many closeup pictures of how horrible the grade is!

This one's not on that level, but it's a huge key so it caught my attention(and with great closeups of how crappy---er, nice it is!)...

Hmmm, is that tape at the top of the spine?

Why, yes...yes it is! And here's a closeup of the tape repair on this "high grade" key book!

I'm sure there have been many doctoral theses written on the deeper meaning of "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang."

I didn't want to say.

I believe there has been a considerable amount of Freudian analysis written about the complexities of his song, "My Love Is Like A Tire Iron".
