don't understand this. Can you explain for someone who doesn't know why the comic has to be in the inner well to begin with?

My opinion is a scammer couldn’t risk trying to seal a raw MJ ASM 252 himself/herself  before sliding into an inner well before replacing the original comic in the empty 9.8 holder. Using one that CGC HAD actually sealed into the inner well would look to even a discriminating eye to be untampered with when received back at CGC for reholdering and the custom label.

In other words.

He could have bought a sonic welder to seal the case, presumably easily, but not an inner well, which he wanted cgc to do to look correct and have both the one swapped and mark jewelers in one...

Hence why the need to crack and submit to CGC to sneak it by them...

I think

this really does look like it is the same copy as the original book in that MJ holder now. only CGC can possibly know for sure, as long as they have imaging. this book was graded in September, so the timeline certainly works.

In that same submission he also got back:

2x ASM 300 9.8s, 1x Secret Wars 8 9.8, and 2x X-Men 266 9.8s. (Non MJers)

They are currently selling an X-Men 266 9.8 MJ and a Secret Wars 8 9.8 MJ. Those do however, look like potential 9.8s from the photos.

I find the lack of a response disturbing

It's still early.  The thread started here Saturday, so today is the first work day since.

Maybe they are giving us time to figure it out, saving them from having to do it.  Free comic detective work force vs. taking someone off their regular duties to look into it.

I find it curious that only recently there has been a surge of 9.8 Copies with MJ inserts after all these years.

The first thing CGC should do is check to see if the "unrecognized Mark Jeweler" reholder request has been done more than once on 9.8 books.

I highly doubt CGC will give us details or will admit their security measures have been compromised. About as much as I expect to see is simply Mike popping in to say, "We're looking into it."

That was a Darth Vader joke

However they do need to pop in a say something. Would you feel comfortable buying a high value book right now? Sure it’d probably be legit however this is probably the least amount of faith I’ve had in the CGC product

Must have been some "newsstand" find.

One submission on 8/4/23

4301294001  ASM 194   9.8  White

4301294002  ASM 194   9.8  White

4301294003  XMEN 266  9.8  MJ  White

4301294004  XMEN 266  9.8  White

4301294005  XMEN 266  9.8  White

4301294006  XMEN 266  9.6  MJ  OW/W

Submission date changes to 10/2/23

4301294007  XMEN 266  9.8  MJ  White

This book, the seller sold, was definitely a reholder??  https://www.ebay.com/itm/285582554580?hash=item427e0bf5d4:g:-oYAAOSwvsplVD1S

#  2120143023    XMEN 266   9.8 white   10/30/23

Here are the 2 submissions next to it.

2120143022  DC UNIVERSE  grade reject  5/12/20

2120143024  BATMAN 567  9.8  5/12/20

Did he put a lower grade copy in the xmen 9.8 holder?

I’d be curious to see pics of the $3k sale to see if we have another book swap. Judging by the prices, the $3k sale was for a newsstand, as you mentioned. Crack, slide a lower grade MJ in, send to CGC and let them know they “missed” it. Wild.

I’m not sure either. They’d have to be high (end variant) collectors who live under a rock if they end up not demanding a return and alternatively a refund from eBay at least for that $15k + sale.
