Well said... I agree entirely.  There's no point to a 9.9 pre-screen... based on the rarity of getting 9.9s with the countless 9.8 pre-screens that have already been submitted, the cost/benefit simply shouldn't be there, UNLESS you're moving the goal posts.

Bingo. I predict the 9.9 rate will need to be bumped up to 3-5% from the current < 0.1% or no one will buy into the 9.9 pre-screen money grab.

What I suspect is they are making all grading relative to the same book only.  Look at the video they released showing the grading of the 400 Power Ranger comics where there were 7x10.0 and 23 x 9.9.  They were comparing those to each other, and calling perfect based on how it compared relatively to the same book. The book they called a 9.9 or 10 in that video appeared to have defects.

Relative grading to other GSXM is the only way this is even in contention for a 9.9. Or maybe grading standars for each age is going to be different.  People for years have claimed a Golden age bump.

And yet, the CGC Census Population report says it was updated yesterday on March 26 as regularly scheduled every Tuesday.  (shrug)

I guess you are saying that although the census is updated every week, it is really updating data retroactively from a couple of weeks ago?  ???

Ask CGC why the 9.9 isn’t showing up? ???

It should have shown up on the 27th.  Unless is was stuck in GEI for more than a week.  It was graded on a Thursday.  I am assuming it didn't make it from graded to shipped in 1 day.  If it doesn't show up on Wednesday, let me know and I will check into this.

With that miswrap it's clearly a gift grade.

Of course they grade on a curve. Is this a real question? Have you ever compared a GA 9.4 and a Copper 9.4? It's night and day. Grading on a curve is 2003 news, not 2023.

So like the guy said, since this GSXM is the best copy, it gets a 9.9...everything lesser gets graded accordingly.

That's the question, and you say yes ?

No.

No idea. Trying to determine if a book is a 9.9 vs a 9.8 based on a picture through 2 layers of plastic is a fools errand.

I mean they make it pretty clear 9.9's can have a slight miswrap, allowing for a very minor manufacturing defect, which is what that is. Hence the reason there's 10.0's. So not sure what the issue is. 9.9's allow it, 10.0's don't. Now if you see a 10.0 with that or any manufacturing defect, then we have a problem and a misgrade.

Actually -  in the CGC Guide to Grading Comics by Matt - they do state that miswraps peak at 9.8
