I collect "breweriana" from old Cincinnati, Ohio breweries. Bottles, lights, signs, whatever else. I've been "building" a bar now (ok, still in planning stages, hehe) for two years & that is what the whole theme/deco of the thing is going to be. At one time there were over 35 breweries in Cincy making all these unique brands. Now there is just one, and all they make really is Sam Adams for the Boston Beer Co. There is a Miller plant in the county north of Cincy, but I don't count them. Damn shame that big corporations have more or less homogenized/nationalized the once diverse/geographic market, but I guess that's bizznizz... smirk.gif Oh yeah, I also used to collect Misfits & Samhain "punk" records, but I pretty much have 'em all now.

I think the value is more in the Ultima brand than the vic 20 brand. I don't know for sure, but don't think vic 20 stuff would at all be expensive in general.

But that ultima game is rare and is the very first ultima game. With the millions of people playing ultima online I guess it's to be expected that the first "appearance" of the franchise, in a rare form like that, would be worth some money.

I usually don't hang on to them long enough to even look at them; they're either lost at the table, or cashed in before I get any ill-concieved notion that I'm on some sort of winning-streak. tongue.gif

Here's how this hobby started, and how you can start your own collection:

Travel to Vegas, stay at favorite Strip hotel.

Walk to new casino. Sit down at favorite game. Have a beverage.

When you're up, pocket one $5 chip and three $1 chips. Out of sight, out of mind.

Walk to next hotel, repeat.

Voila, instant collection on the house! Its great motivation to visit and play at different casinos. Now I have a mental list of other casinos to visit on my next trip to Vegas in July, and each time I return, to continue the collection. Also, I encourage family to bring me a chip from casinos that they play in Mississippi, etc.

Not to mention the fact that the collection is pretty liquid if you ever need to sell it.

My comic collection is pretty eclectic- It includes undergrounds, tijuana bibles, tabloids, digests, magazines and every mainstream genre including funny animal and romance. I'm sure I have at least one comic published from every year from 1940 to now.

In addition to comics, I pick up pulps, 60s Men's adventure mags (sweats), and the occasional mystery digest and vintage paperback when the cover appeals to me, but I don't have a want list or anything for that stuff. When I was younger and frequented flea markets, I used to collect vintage shot glasses with racist, sexist and alcoholic gags on them - I have about 40 different ones, but I stopped looking years ago.

I also used to collect terrestrial globes, but after accumulating about a dozen spanning the 1890s to the 1960s, I felt I had enough representative ones, including some great illuminating ones from the 30s. It would be cool to have some from the earlier part of the 19th century, and even the 18th century, but they tend to be pretty pricey if they are in any kind of decent condition.

It's Christmas time, which means not only am I buying comic books, but I'm also picking up football cards and first edition books. It's a tough time of year for me in the sense that there's just too much to buy.

For those out there who also collect something other than comics, what do you collect? How do you balance the two/three/four collections? I'm looking for ideas on how to balance these things...

I collect Jeep upgrades. It's easy really. I buy most of my comics during winter (good time to read comics0 and Jeep upgrades in the summer (good time to destroy the environment).

Good man.

I am restoring another one of my Camaros. I have rebuilt the engine, trans, exhaust, complete interior, front fenders, hood, rear taillight panel, rear quarter panels, lights, bumpers, weather strip, emblems, turn signals, side marker lights..you name it, it has been replaced. It is heading to the paint shop this week:
