a pedigree with some problems :nyah:

It's nearly a photo finish Ameri, but yours IS worse, as it's missing one more page than mine.  lol They're about as close as brothers can get though ... same basic condition, same pedigree and only a few issues apart. I actually found parts that I think will complete my copy (might still be missing one page), but I won't be sure until I crack it out and check.

Interesting notations on that one, and the worst issues I have seen on a Cosmic Aeroplane.  I wonder if they harvested some pages for art instruction?  Hopefully the back cover ad is intact, as I like it better than the cover!

Yep, back cover is  intact

Love this thread!

Found a CGC upgrade of NA26 from a 2.0 to 2.5, which cuts down 1 from the census!

Improves with age?

Doesn't that look as if it's been cleaned?

I'm not sure if this has been posted here or not and I want to be clear on this: THIS ISN'T MINE, I don't own it, but I found this pic while going through a folder and thought it should be posted here for all to enjoy! An original Guardineer cover saved from way back then! I can't even afford a copy of the comic, let ALONE how much this artwork would cost!!!

Adventure 34 cover art.png

IIRC this showed up in the mid-90s along with Adventure 45, Action 16 and More Fun 47.

Expand

More Fun 16 and New Comics 11 both have ads for Detective Comics #1.

With a December 1936 date? Detective 1 changed to a March 1937 when it hit the stands. I would love to see your whole 1935 to 1938 titles.

Was the Action #15 in there as well? The story I'd heard about these covers (all Guardineer btw) was that the reason they were saved was because Guardineer himself saved them, as he was given them in place of payment owed to him by National at the time. I can't confirm the source of that information, but it IS what I heard.  (shrug)

Yea and let’s not leave out the pulp swipe from April, 1935 😆

I have seen other covers by Guardineer that were heavily inspired by other artwork. I think the Action Comics #8 cover is another case of being heavily inspired by another work.

Yup. It’s from N.C. Wyeth’s 1919 The Last of the Mohicans

I've posted a lot of the New Comics and New Adventures earlier in this thread.  But here is another issue from the run with an ad for Tec #1:

Yes! I’d forgotten about the 15. The 34, 16 and 45 were for sale in The Buyers Guide for I believe around $10k each shortly after they were discovered.

Not sure what the going rate was for OA in the mid-90's, but even though that might have been a tidy sum of money back then, this still must have been considered to be as rare as hen's teeth.  :luhv:  :takeit:
