  1. I've only purchased a handful of raw books from Metropolis. My experience has been more pleasant. From the books I've gotten, I thought their grading was spot on.
  2. I've always said that about SSOC #235. As much as I love Rudy Nebres (I assume that's the artist), it's just not a very good cover to close off what is such a respectable and admired run. Especially when you compare it with all those fantastic covers from the early years by Boris, Adams, Norem, etc..
  3. Love Conan #3. A much better story than either #1 or #2. Would have been nice if they adjusted the story a little bit and used this one to introduce Conan instead of the weak "introductory" story they used for Conan #1. One weird thing about this issue is that most copies seem to have that annoying clockwise tilt to the cover. I thought it was just the wrap being bad, but looking at this copy where the visible, white binder border is fairly straight from top/down, if not slightly tilted counter-clockwise, I see that the clockwise tilt is still there. I guess this is how the original artwork for the cover was laid out and gives an illusion of a miswrap.
  4. Why? I assume you're referring to the CL exchange. From what I understand, you don't send your book to CL until after a sale has been made. You're notified, you send the book in, they hold it for you until payment has been rec'd, they send the book out to buyer, you get paid by CL. Sound perfectly fine to me. Now if it's an auction, that's different. You have to send the book in before the auction opens. Otherwise, the same. You get paid when they get paid. Otherwise, the book remains safe and sound, and is not sent out to the buyer.
  5. I've always liked this book, even though when it first came out, I was long out of comics. Really amazed at the popularity and the going prices considering there were so many copies printed and at a time when so many people were conscious of saving comics as potential investments.
  6. There you have it. Just my personal observation, collectors will buy what they like and thereby generate interest. If the creator's signature happens to be on it, then it's just an added plus and maybe a small premium. Given that there is ZERO collector interest in these titles, you're only hedging value on just the creator's signature. When was the last time you saw anyone buy a book solely for the Neal Adam's signature? Unless these books have some collector value to you personally, I'd consider it a gift to her and offer a $100 for the lot or pass on the headache. If it was me, I'd just talk her into keeping them as a memento to pass on later to her kids.
  7. I am really astonished that, excluding Jimmy Olsen #134 (an overrated book IMO), this is not the leading book in the 4th World saga. We're talking about Orion here. Second only to Darkseid in importance with the New Gods universe. Instead, you have first appearances of B and C characters like Steppenwolf, Big Barda, Black Racer, and others being more sought after than NG #1. Unbelievable.
  8. Ya know, it occurs to me, and I wonder why I've never noticed it before. Is Casper supposed to be a dead a baby? At minimum, he's a dead child of some sort, right?
  9. That's 'cause Bat collectors are still recovering from the massively disappointing crapfest that was BvS.
  10. RIP. Absolutely loved his Spectre run as a kid and later collected the slabbed run. Under appreciated to this day. At least with the younger generation anyway. Good journey, Michael. May Jim Corrigan escort you to paradise.
  11. Was casually skimming through CL's last auction and was really surprised to see that 9.8 Marvel Preview 7 sell for $3,651. Anyone know if this is the highest it's ever gone for? Either the scan is bad or I think this is not a really good looking 9.8. Does that look like a crease at the top right corner? Or just a scratch on the slab? I just can't get enough of that cover
  12. I actually saw movie tonight (finally). Too be honest, I liked it. No, not great, but not bad either. Especially compared to BvS. The only part of the movie that I really hated and got my eyes rolling was the ending. Not the epilogue, but just right after they defeat Steppenwolf. That was my only "Oh, come on!" moment where the movie lost me (no spoiler here). Somehow, I don't think that was something Snyder would have put in.
  13. I was reading through my run of Miller DD and came across these sigs. Wonder where these kids are now
  14. "Great Guns"? For Power Girl maybe, but not SuperGirl.
  15. Although I love my copy of 227, if grades were equal, I'd probably go for TOD 10 since that's the intro of a new character. I say probably because I view myself more of a Batman collector and not a investor. TOD 10 might be a bigger key, but I personally wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it whereas without Bats 227, my Adams Bats collection would be noticeably incomplete.
  16. Marvel Super Special #2: The Savage Sword of Conan http://diversionsofthegroovykind.blogspot.com/2008/12/stocking-stuffer-marvel-super-special-2.html
  17. Buscema/Alcala was my favorite combo for all those classic Conan stories. Chau was good, but Alcala was great in my opinion.
  18. I started reading electronic copies of SSOC, but I just can't get used to reading comics on my PC. Seeing as I don't have money or will to collect all the originals (have about 100 so far), I'm giving the TPBs a go. Got these really cheap since they were used, but they're still in great shape (covering issues #1 through #71). Certainly fine for reading purposes.
  19. Today's generation don't write letters. They text.
  20. Had a chance to pick up a copy of Batman 181 in CGC 9.4 with W pages for a $1000. Passed on it because I wanted to focus on Adams Bats. Huge mistake.
  21. Warlord 26. Yep. I know what you're thinking. So what. It's a $1 dollar drek book. That I'd agree, however, it was the last one I needed......... Hopefully I'll have time this summer to read through the run.
