CBCS to CGC Grading Increase?
MGsimba77 replied to Xenosmilus's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Ok thanks for reporting back! So the 2 that came back 9.6 were screened & they were estimated at 9.8 right? If so then that really sucks! Did they recommend pressing? Was this latest batch of 4 books also bronze age? Excuse all the Q's but I'm trying to gather as much information on people's results as I can before taking this dive -
To finish my mini run of CGC X-Men from GSXM to #100. I've only got 2 more to go so it's doable but #94 in 9.6 will be tough and quite aways away.

Ross Andru's Amazing Spider-Man Club
MGsimba77 replied to Get Marwood & I's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
152 is where it stopped. If I remember right it was mostly if not all involving Shocker. 151 is where he figured out he wasn't the clone. Issue 153 starts anew with Kingpin's henchnen & that memorable cover with Spiderman jumping over the goalpost on the ECU football field -
Ok thanks. I asked specifically for standard tier & up. Infact I asked twice & the answer was they'll only email me if screeners think it's warranted. That's why I hate calling these people with questions that aren't just "what's the status of my submission". They're not terribly informed. It's frustrating as hell!
-
Yeah that's assuming they bet back to me. I'm not sure if they will since the representative on the phone indicated they may not unless they think there's a possibility of a downgrade. Anyhow I'd want to have 2 of my possible submissions pressed anyway whether they recommend or not just to be extra sure to avoid downgrade
-
If you submit crossover books under standard tier or higher along with pressing then I'm not sure if they'll go directly to ccs before being screened??? If they do go to CCS before screening then it wouldn't make much sense as they could possibly have some restoration or whatever while being pressed. Be nice to have some clarification on this
-
What did they say in the email? I called them with this question and they said the only reason they'd contact you is if there's a possibility of a downgrade/detection of restoration or if pressing would help. Otherwise they wouldn't bother contacting. BTW, did the page quality change in any of your crossovers? Thanks for reporting your results!

Presumably to get more business their way and monopolize the grading service market

CBCS to CGC Grading Increase?

How old were the cbcs books you got back from CGC? What do you mean by "preliminary 9.8's"? -
I've already posted this book but I ordered this frame with it in mind . Took awhile to get finished but worth the wait. Whatya guys think?

Ross Andru's Amazing Spider-Man Club
MGsimba77 replied to Get Marwood & I's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Andru's Spidey artwork is somewhere between early Romita skinny somewhat muscular physique & McFarlane's steroid filled jacked up Spidey physique. Personally I'd prefer that Andru style. It was the most credible since the character is an agile gymnast not a bodybuilder. I wouldn't even include Ditko's style since everyone drew superheroes back then like they'd never ever seen a gym!.. except for hulk maybe -
Ross Andru's Amazing Spider-Man Club
MGsimba77 replied to Get Marwood & I's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Marvel super heroes #14, 1968 first Andru penciling Spider-Man. I initially thought it was ASM 136 or 138 since the the explosion symbol by his forehead looked like it was from a goblin Jack-o'-lantern or just having someone mess with his head. The artwork seemed a bit silver age though. I can't be on the site everyday always but I'll get to it soon as I can -
Incredible Hulk #181 - is it *that* red-hot?
MGsimba77 replied to Getoutandstayout's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Yeah I was keeping an eye on this. Just wacko bananas! I'd definitely submit that splash page to CGC for encapsulation if I had a chance. I'm just glad I was able to grab a decently priced raw 180 with a good looking last page -

Ross Andru's Amazing Spider-Man Club
MGsimba77 replied to Get Marwood & I's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I've been having a fierce debate with myself on whether to submit this cbcs copy to CGC for the crossover promotion. If I do I'll definitely have it screened first. I'm not sure how honest they'll be as in will they honestly say that it'll have a fair chance at a downgrade? It would be in their interest to say everything is worth a shot at regrading. I love those new holders but if there's a downgrade I'll just die! I'm just not sure yet -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

Yeah ASM 138 is copper. If it says March 83 then it was probably sitting on newsstands around Jan '83. I think bronze ends in Dec 82 -
99 is definitely a keeper! Storm played a big part in saving the day there. Good reads bro! #98 is actually when it was first found out that wolverine's claws were part of him & not just something external. I love those early new Xmen! I'd love to find an affordable raw gsxm at least for the splash page.

I'm not sure but i think it's a reference to the gun violence in Chicago. I don't know if that was his point but this kind of thing of wishing physical harm or worse on people you don't agree with is poisoning our union. This kind of bitterness is not sustainable! BTW, Maher still has occasional episodes of verbal flatulence
