So, I hadn't really looked at Justice before and of course went looking when I saw that globe on the cover on Jack's post.  Four issues 1955 to 1956, a Manhunt sort of copy with JDM, Gil Brewer, and others.  Atlas mags weren't really known for their high level of fiction but these look pretty good.  Courtesy of I believe three different pulp scanners I was able to look through all the issues but the first.  Some examples of familiar Atlas artists working in a digest style (and I'm not exactly an Atlas expert, so bear with)

NMS (not my scans but at least a couple of them are in the people's library).  The first issue is not scanned as far as I know.  I'd like a copy if the price is reasonable or I will happily trade (though crime digests SHOULD be fairly cheap, don't know how many Goodman sold tho)

Actually, not really a pulp but similar. Picked up this great 1925 Zeppelin cover at a flea market yesterday.

Initially, the tape really turned me off but when I realized how cheap it was and the fact that I would probably never find a better one, I jumped on it.

I guess this should qualify as a pulp. March 1892 Strand Magazine UK edition. This one has the 11th Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle (there were only 62 in all from 1887 through 1927). UK editions came first. The cost was just six pence (6 pennies) for 325 pages! USA editions followed a month later. Dr. Watson narrates each story. Sidney Paget (SP) illustrated all the stories. Paget's depiction of Holmes bears and uncanny resemblance to Basil Rathbone, the definitive movie Holmes.

Do you know when/if they started published mags with all Holmes stories?

Great, another digest set I need to look for. I love the Atlas logo   Of Course Goodman never missed a beat on re-using previously commissioned artwork

I despaired of ever getting a copy of this one when the prices went vertical over the last couple of years but was happy to snag a fairly presentable copy. I now have the three Marvel pulps I consider essential, #1, the Human Torch issue and this, the test tube babe cover

I remember being surprised when the original sold for 40 grand back in 2008, very high for a pulp painting.  I bet it'd sell for 100K today.

Today, I proudly present the antepenultimate pulp!  Ranch Romances was famously the last pulp to stay in the classic format, all the way to 1971, after most of the pulps changed to digests or stopped altogether in the mid-50's.  There were a few attempts to revive the format- Fantastic Universe published its last few issues in pulp format in 59-60, and Weird Tales would have a short revival in the classic pulp format in 73-74 are two I'm aware of off the top of my head.  But when you're considering the classic pulps, this was the last survivor, and this is from its last year.  Which makes my goal of having every pulp cover dated the month I was born very simple:  This it is.

First appearance of H G Wells War of the Worlds was in Great Britain in 9 installments in Pearson's magazine. I believe the story was also serialized in the US in Cosmopolitan magazine at the same time. Must have been a mind-blower for 19th century folks reading about Martian invasions. Here's installment #4, July 1897.
