Is there something about this particular issue? Or is it just the Promise bump? I think many here have already hit the nail on the head. There are several Bakers that I have not seen above 7.0. Then there are some that are not available in any condition. The "highest grade" collectors certainly put a premium on them. The Promise Teen-age Romances issues sold so-far are incredible (imagine a #45 Promise copy). The Baker's I paid the most for were always based on the cover (which is different for everyone), but Blue Ribbon #4 was not on my top ten list. Selling on HA also seems to be the correct venue. Ebay and other sales venues make searches a hassle and require daily viewing. Heritage (until recently) had one day of comic sales per week. Time is money and I'm at a point with Bakers that I'd rather just finish the set than keep doing my regular searches. Maybe others feel the same. Is there something about this particular issue? Or is it just the Promise bump? well, yes, more so the Promise bump and a general sign of the times. Of course Baker books are rare in 8.5 and above, but the truth is there are probably more higher grade Baker romance per slabbed issues than any other publisher save Fawcett (and that's due solely to the Crowleys). Romance in high grade aint happening across the board. But Baker books have always sold at multiples to other romance titles in all grades. But back to the Promise books. Junie bought everything (except funny animal books) but still remarkably little romance considering the genre's saturation of the market in 1949 and 1950. Only 4 Baker romance in that whole 5000 book lot. Compare that to this list of Bakers which are still out there, either unslabbed or still unsold, waiting to make an appearance...one day. No Prize if you can guess what "pedigree" these books belong to. And it isn't Church. That's a whole different romance story. Dr. Love
I'm talking "pocket" Sixth St, as yet unsold (publicly) and sitting somewhere. But yes, there were 18 St John sold on Ebay and one on CL, that GCE 12 7.0 you referred to - $9300 back on 8/1/13.
