PROBATION DISCUSSIONS

I heard back from the buyer and was given more excuses as to why they couldn't pay but was told I can re-list the book. Frustrated about the whole thing but am unsure if this is probation territory any longer since there is really no way for them to make it right if I re-list.

I assume I should just move on at this point?

I am not sure whether to suggest someone for the probation list or not and I would be very appreciative for some assistance in this matter.

About a month ago, someone posted a :takeit: in my sales thread and at thread close, I sent a PM thanking them and giving Paypal information for the books they wanted. Their total was only $23 but still my assumption is that the amount doesn't matter with non-payment.

After five days of no response and having seen they read it after the first day, I PM'd again giving them the option of backing out if they were no longer interested stating that I wanted to sell the book. The buyer responded that they were new to Paypal and asked if they could send a check.

No problem. I gave the address and they stated they would send it out the next day.

Fast forward ten days and still no check. I PM asking about it. Fast forward another six days and I get a response that they were on vacation and it was sent. So after saying they checked and it wasn't cashed they offer to pay with their new paypal account.

I give my payment information and a week later no payment and no communication from the buyer. I send one last PM stating I want to re-list the book and the buyer has not read the message or been on the boards since.

Is this probation worthy? Is the amount too low or the time frame too short?

I really want to just re-list the book at this point and move on but without their go ahead to do so I am not sure if I can by rule.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Definitely probation worthy, not so much because of the $$ amount but because he makes excuses and lies. Next time it could be a large amount.

+1

The guy backed out of an agreed upon deal. That's probation worthy all by itself.

The way he would "make it right" is by satisfying you whether it be buying the books, some kind of monetary agreement or just a apology. If they are refusing to pay and have not satisfied you, the aggrieved, they should be listed on the probation list to protect others from their antics and you should feel free to re-list the books in the hopes of finding a reliable buyer.

It does seem like this is the first time they have attempted to purchase something online... or perhaps I am just naive.

Now they say their new account has a negative balance. I don't think it matters. They made a transaction and then failed to follow through on it.

So, I recommend toyman be put on the probation list for not making payment on a buy in a reasonable amount of time.

If I need to post this somewhere else, please let me know. Thankfully this is the first time I have had to do this.

I agreed to pay for the book and you said that you just wanted to relist the item. So what is it, should I pay for the item or not (shrug)

This is your PM to me, and it's also been 28 days not 30 days.

Originally you were sending a check. I never received it and now I feel like I am getting the constant run around.

I will be re-listing the comic. Sorry it didn't work out.

and this was my response to John:

Hi John,

No, I am not giving you the runaround, sorry you feel that way. Sorry for the mess and good luck with the sale.

So 28 days makes it OK?

No 28 days does not make it ok, however I explained to John my situation with paypal, it was his decision to relist the item. I am still willing to purchase the item from him as soon as paypal corrects their mistake on my account.

This is a clear case of delays and failure to pay via paypal or check. It was the seller's decision to re-list the item because he was tired of the aggravation, it hardly excuses your behavior. Paypal doesn't work, fine send him the check like you originally asked.

And I know this seller. He's a stand-up guy who offered you an out early on when he sensed you weren't committed to completing the deal. He isn't a hot head and feels bad about nominating you at all.

Not long ago you nominated wintersoldier for failure to pay and for wasting your time. Dejanotpay all over.

I never said he wasn't a stand up guy, however delays do happen and I stated that I would still purchase the book and explained to him what happened which caused the delay and I also apologized. Again, I told John that I WOULD pay for the book as soon as my funds are available from paypal.

If he goes on the list, there needs to be a way for him to get off the list. If you resell the comics, what options does that leave him?

I know it's probably not a popular position, but I'm thinking if you resell them, he's off the hook. The PL isn't about punishment, it's a public place for people who've screwed up to linger until they make right.

I don't know Speedy. When I'm selling, I usually need the money to fund some other waste of money... like food, water, gas or my wife. Its should be ok to sell something if the "runaround" is evident.

And toyman, I'm not doubting you either... if you say you sent a check and he didnt get it, then maybe that happened. In fairness, all you would have had to do was stop payment on that check, then just send another correct? Easy peasy.

But if this is non payment then the majority of us (me and the dogs) feel non payment is PL worthy. I personally want to know this about a person if im the next guy he decides to purchase from... and the PL list is really the only way to know.

Heres a way to get him off the list... and I've bought it up as an option to the only person I've ever had to put on the list...

Pay whatever the amount owed to a deserving good cause or charity with proof to back up that payment.

Right now the Flatrock family would be a logical choice. Of course, theres always the CBLDF or the Hero Initiative that need monetary help too.

Just food for munchin' :)
