Action Comics #1 (1938) CGC 9.0 on the census

398 posts in this topic

I am not in the market for any of these books (so I probably don't really know what I'm talking about,) but I can imagine the high but appropriate estimated values for the Action 1 9.0 will drive up the prices on all the major keys. Looking at GPA for the AF 15 9.0 lists it as $150k from July of 2010. While a few years ago that may have seen like a lot of money, that's less than 10% of the estimate for the Action 1. Now there are certainly more than 10 times as many of the high grade AF 15's than AC 1's, so that price difference makes sense, but even so, the pressure for higher values seems present. One million dollars for a comic is not such a big deal any more- the $1 million club is becoming the new $100k club. I can definitely see the Action 1 selling for more than $2 million- would not surprise me and I'm sure it would not be a huge surprise for anyone. It would be interesting to see what the odds would be among boardies to bet whether the book reaches $2 mil.

Investors and collectors will recognize the potential price increases for these major keys and drive up those prices, either as an investment or to get in while they can afford it. I may consider buying a low grade AF 15 just to have the opportunity to own one. Up until now, I thought that demand has got to come down since there are so many out there, but that does not seem to be happening. If I don't get in now, maybe I never will be able to afford one.

Don't forget there's a PGX 9.0 out there as well.

Does anyone know what ended up happening to that book?

Never sold and it's restored. Cover was partly cleaned.

Had a big 3" color breaking crease in the bottom right corner, too.

There's also a 1" tear seal on the bc. But it's a beautiful book. There are some raw pics of it on the boards and it also better than in it's slabbed pic.

Several tear seals on back cover too. A 7.5/8.0 slight at best. Doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same thread as a cgc 9.0 !
