You really think these values with hold?

Once they realize that the entertainment properties will get stuck in

pre-production hell they will come back down again.

My advice is to sell sell sell.

If that does happen, and I believe it's very possible, don't you think these book settle in at a value higher than they were pre-hype?

Its possible if they bring in a new fan base to support the books longer. Its currently not a dead universe so they are gather some new fans with the new books too. Early high grade keys have always held a decent value as some boardies on here will tell you as well.

FWIW, here are Harbinger 1 9.8 Blue sales for 2014:

Dec-31-2014 $309 Cert# 1057149036

Sep-20-2014 $300 Cert# 1035689007

Sep-16-2014 $367 Cert# 1224642001

Jun-16-2014 $360 Cert# 1136725002

Apr-18-2014 $395 Cert# 1199834011

Mar-15-2014 $301 PQ: W

Feb-23-2014 $345 Cert# 1176122002

Feb-04-2014 $330 Cert# 1170424010

Jan-31-2014 $325 Cert# 1174583001

Jan-24-2014 $335 Cert# 1018240017

Exactly -- per GPA, those 10 recorded sales in 2014 averaged out to $337.

In 2015, there was a sale in Feb. at $339.

It's just disingenuous to say "sales of $300-$400 even before the announcement" when the average over 15 months & 11 recorded sales was consistent at $337. In my mind, $337 is a far cry from $350, let alone $400.

Per GPA, the low was $300 and the high was $395 in 2014. Despite an average of $337, "sales of $300-$400 even before the announcement" seems like an accurate statement. If you click on the link within GPA, it gives you that same range for 2014 - $300-$395. I don't think he was disingenuous at all.

Harbinger 1 has always been expensive, 9.8's were going for $300-$400 even before the announcement

Patently false. The week before the announcement 4-5 copies CGC 9.8 copies sat unsold at ~$325 Buy-It-Nows on eBay & at least one retailer site, while the CGC 9.6s sat unsold at $100 Buy-It-Nows but sold for about $78 at true auction (with the occasional $100 true auction for 9.6).

There's a world of difference between "sold for $300-$400 in 9.8" and "sat for months unsold at $325 BIN asking price in 9.8"

Before the announcement the book had steadily trended downward over a period of several years from the 2500 high. There's a 65 page thread on the discussion and analysis of Harbinger 1 in CGC 9.8, and for Kevin to say the book was 'expensive' in the $300-400 range is taking this book at severely depressed levels. There is extensive buyer history support at this book at the 1k level and 500$. Only the absolute weakest hands were shaken out in the $300-350 range.

Trust me, I was very, very critical on the price action on this book for a number of years and only until it got to the mid 300s and below you'll see I started to change my tune.

The important question, in regards to this, os whether a similar volume of people will be looking for Valiant books over time. I'd like to think yes, because I think the quality of the books stands up to Marvel and DC, and surpasses them when considering the lines on average, but time will tell

For those of you who missed it, there was NOTHING like 1990-1993. It was complete madness. Every book that came out was hot, every book was $10 within 2 months, every book was the next Action #1.

Valiant was...there's just nothing to describe it if you weren't there.

It was (let me see if I have this right) "banana shrimp."

I've heard the earlier Burton Batman craze was even nuttier. Is this true?

No...the Batman craze was only for Batman. Don't get me wrong, it was madness...but it was only for Batman.

Judge for yourself through direct feedback from the creators and comic book industry leaders how this movie went over for the hobby.

Was Batman that came out in 1989 the beginning of movie hype comic speculation?

I posted the Shadows of the Bat featurettes that were created for the DVD releases of all the early Batman movies. They even included an interview with Stan Lee on some of how comic books started becoming more mainstream through things like the comic book college course taught by Michael Uslan (producer across all the Batman movies - including Nolan's).

I think it was Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight #3 that talks to the impact on the hobby, and how they couldn't print enough comics to satisfy the demand.

Batman 1989 is what brought me into the hobby.

Been a collector ever since.

It was insane. I had never experienced anything like it, as I was too young to really know what the Star Wars craze was like.

:applause:

It's what got me excited again to get back into the hobby after a few years being deployed overseas.

Jim

I stand by my statement because I've been actively buying Harbinger 1s (raw and slabbed) since December.

I know the pre-movie announcement market (raw, as well as CGC 9.2-9.8) extremely well.

And the fact was there were at least 5 copies of Harbinger 1 in CGC 9.8 available via well-known dealer &/or auction sites that were sitting unsold for weeks at $325 asking prices a month ago today.

Nobody wanted them (December to present) at those prices. _I_ didn't even want them, and was waiting for a true auction that I thought would would finish in the $290-$310 range.

So instead I bought raws, a few CGC 9.2s, a 9.4 and (I'm glad) a 9.6.

Sure...maybe this was a cyclical downturn, due to post-holiday doldrums as folks typically pay off their Dec. credit card debt, but it's not a "$300-$400" book if _multiple copies_ sat unsold at $325.

I never bought a Batman comic before 1989. Then I was buying Batman comics, Batman die cast cars, Batman action figures, Batman movie trading cards, Batman magazines, Batman pins, Batman this, Batman that. lol:P
