Update from last night ComicLink acution close.

Green Hornet #21

MikesAmazingWorld puts the newsstand date around October 4, 1944

Date Stamp on book says October 21 (or more accurately OCT 21 1944)

No code, no signature. Transitional camp book where she moved from signatures and codes to less consistant markings, often using a date stamp as shown here. Timing is consistent with other previous transitional books. Same date stamp from the pedigree as Mystery Comics #4. One earlier date stamp comic, Police Comics #37 (OCT 10 1944).

Book sold in auction on 12/2/2020 for $3812. The same copy sold in April of 2020 for $2640. The market has valued this book in the highest multiplier range (10-12x) due to the book being both "military" in subject cover matter AND having Japanese soldiers (in the act of subterfuge and sabotage aboard a US military vessel) depicted on the cover in a manner consistent with the era

Its also an Alex Schomburg WW II cover so that plays a factor too.

Why is there no date on the label?

I've always been curious. When there are no tell tale markings how does CGC verify Pedigree?  I know some pedigrees such as Church's books have a distinctive smell. If not how for others? (shrug)

Master list i think. Small collections like Allentown are easy in that case.

Not sure how much the Master List really helps since it's still easy to lose the provenance of the book by the time it passes through a few hands unless their was some type of identification either on the book or on the mylar holder.  hm

The Allentown books being a perfect example here.  Even though it is by far the smallest of the GA pedigrees at only 135 different books, I still remember a couple of different books selling as non-pedigree copies before eventually getting back its much treasured and prestigious Allentown pedigree status.  :cloud9:

A nice jumbo comics Okajima is on the bay.  I'd love to snag it, but probably go for well out of what I'd pay for a Jumbo comic :(

*edit*  Just realized it's a Jungle and now Jumbo.  Ewww D:

Post camp, but has the classic distribution mark from the later period of the collection, and Fiction House was her favorite for sure.... A great example of the pedigree for someone to pickup.

I was just looking up Okajima and I came across  this website. It looks like a relative replied in Oct, I know that @miraclemet posted before that and I believe the owner of the site is a boarder, but I was wondering if anyone responded to that Oct post?

Had someone on Instagram really pushing me to sell this copy. After an offer I could not refuse I went upstairs and dug it out to count pages and make sure everything was ok. Was sold as a 5.5 no issues. To my surprise there is a page missing. It looks like a perfect factory cut. Is this out of the realm of possibility or has anyone seen any of here books where she removed pages? Coupons?

This issue has two half registered pages (2 pages instead of 4, pages cut in half before binding). Was a war time effort to help save paper.

This book is on eBay, It was listed for $2k, which I thought  was too high to even make an offer, but I had it watch, because I watch all the Okajima's. https://www.ebay.com/itm/274724708667?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11304.m43.l3160&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=e46b18d71c87464181da4b00b98e329c&bu=43188192204&osub=-1~1&crd=20210326103352&segname=11304&sojTags=ch%3Dch%2Cbu%3Dbu%2Cosub%3Dosub%2Ccrd%3Dcrd%2Csegname%3Dsegname%2Cchnl%3Dmkcid

I just got an offer from eBay (I guess because I have it on watch) for $1500, which I still think is high. I looked on GPA in case I

missed a huge increase and there it was, sold in Oct for $150...that would have been a bargain. Now I don't want to make an offer and insult the

person...however, if the seller is a boarder, nice pick up.

Amazing story!!! Bravo all around to those who have contributed to this documentary thread, especially to @miraclemet  @path4play  @skypinkblu @Griff  @cheetah who have been the driving force of this thread

I actually went through most of the pages in this thread for several hours.

Are her family/descendants recognized that CGC actually recognized Okajima's collection? Did CGC ever contact her family? This is one collection I hope that can be brought together again someday for some sort of exhibition. I hope a rich collector buy up as many Okajimas out there as possible and gather and donate them all to a museum/library.

It's Okajima's story that needs to be preserved more than just her books
