Man, took a hit on the two Boris pieces I consigned. I expected to with "Barbarian Woman", as I bought it back when Boris paintings were still hard to find; a few years later, the floodgates opened and Heritage got dozens/hundreds of paintings for sale.

I'm surprised, though, to have lost money on that Conan movie poster prelim - it's super tight and super nice - can't believe the market says it's a <$2K piece! I mean, what else that cool can you buy for that price? Can't believe that's not even worth the $2.2K I paid years ago.

Sorry to hear. I agree, I think the conan movie prelim is pretty cool. I'm playing monday morning quarterback, but I wonder if it wouldn't have sold better to a movie collector crowd who wouldn't have the same hangups about prelims that comic collectors do. Comic art collectors are spoiled for choice on finished art but someone who is into that movie doesn't have 22 pages a month to collect from, there is one painting, and one or a few prelims, ever. Tough to say.

As a side note, I'm a little surprised to hear boris paintings were ever hard to find... tell me more? So boris was not selling them years ago then? I've bought stuff from him and julie going back 6 years now and its always been very easy, they are super organized... if I ask about a piece and they can tell me immediately if its available and what it costs.

Barry Smith Conan the Barbarian #4

$87K

That is crazy.

A little high, but not crazy IMO.

Scott

Full disclosure. I was the under bidder, so of course I didn't think it was crazy. My Heritage luck is consistent.

Scott

I guess I'm in the minority. I thought this was going to hit $100K all day long.

That would not have shocked me in the slightest.

Don't mention bad luck. I literally waited a split second to long on the Swan WF page. Thirty minutes later, I'm still annoyed I didn't bid sooner. Oh, man, that's frustrating. Not the first time, won't be the last, Oh well, there is always another piece, somewhere, sometime...

I was going to make an attempt on the Conan but my phone krapped out on me at the last second. It's working now, of course :pullhair:

Romitaman.com has a bunch of Fastner/Larson paintings on the site. I'd expected these to sell closer to that ballpark.

Congrats to the winners. I love the Alpha Flight one in particular

Yeah, I think Mike has his F&L portfolio paintings (Spider-Man and X-Men) up for like $8-12K each (though, they've sat around for a while at those levels).

Yeah I was going to say those have sat for quite some time now.

I was looking at the BWS Iron Man page, I loved the image. I saw a somewhat comparable page (in my head/memory at least) for sale at the last comic art con priced at $7500,which I thought was high. What do those in the know think about the $5K price on this one: high, low, or just right? I decided to save my cash for comic link though, gotta go hard at one page there and try to make a big splash!

Paul smith xmen page is going great guns right now

9500

:screwy:

OK if an xmen fan like you can say it then I don't feel so bad whole heartedly agreeing. lol

I'm just messing with you guys. I bought it.

I hadn't planned on going to the mat for it, but, after losing out on the Kirby/Sinnott FF 99 splash (I was the underbidder) and the Wood/Powell DD 9 page (got smoked even though I put in what I thought was a strong bid), I decided to bump up my max on the X-Men #173 page from $7,500 to "whatever it takes". lol

Even though I'm going to take a loss on my consignment, the good news is that I'm guaranteed to take in more in sales proceeds than I'm buying in this sale (the F&L X-Men painting, one of the Buscema SS #7 pages, the P. Smith X-Men #173 page and hopefully one small piece in tomorrow's session).

Did you get the Silver Surfer 7 page 30 Gene? That was a really nice page and I think well bought at that price. Congrats.

Yes, aside from a few lots I was watching (bit didn't bid on) at Heritage, I think Clink has, for me, many more interesting pieces this time around. And it certainly seems as though they have several more lots, than previous auctions.

Don`t want to be mean, but anyone who buys Boris deserves to lose money.
