He purchased a book from me last night and today he sent me a message asking to ship to a different address. I already printed the label with the Ebay provided address and I don't ship to any address other than this. I cancelled the transaction and sent a message to the buyer asking him to update his address on ebay. I've added the seller to my blocked list, so even if he updates the address I won't be selling to him.

As sellers, should we not be shipping to other addresses? If they give ample notice, is it not still ok?

Add amogus_pp asked to buy an arm only for an action figure I had listed. I blocked the buyer as he may buy it, claim the arm is gone, then try to return it. Of course an eBay newb. I have arms laying around to an action figure, sure, dullard!

Really up to you if you want to ship to another address other than what's registered on their account, but it could be a set up for a scam...

I will only ship to a requested address (different from the eBay provided address) if it's low cost, like $30 or less. I couldn't say for sure if eBay will cover you in those cases, so I only risk what it wouldn't kill me to lose.

I'm thinking it works just like the old PayPal Seller Protection Policy, where you were only covered if you shipped to the "confirmed address". It could be different, but I don't think so.

If it's a fixed price listing over $30 that they buy, and they want to ship to a different address, I offer to cancel the transaction so that they can repurchase with the correct address.

Why risk any amount? Changing your registered address takes no time at all. If a buyer is legit and can't be arsed to correct their address I don't want their business.

Sometimes people move and forget that they didn't set up their new address. Or they want to send it as a gift directly to a friend or relative. If it's not a lot of money, I do the favor.

Probably had about 5 instances over the 25 years, no ensuing problems. But everyone has different tolerances for exposure, and some people have zero. Depends on your backbone.

eBay will only cover you if you ship to the address they provide for you on the shipping label, even when the buyer messages you giving you documented proof of the address change request eBay will NOT cover you.

The buyer can call eBay and have it changed, and then it will update in their account and then ultimately the shipping label will reflect the change.

For something expensive, I would follow that method.  For smaller stuff, it's a judgement call.

Many of my best repeat customers are with me because I helped them out with a small favor, that they appreciated.  The extra money I have made as a result of that dwarfs any money I might lose on a small favor gone wrong. None lost yet.

Life if full of risks, business is full of risks.  You can stay hunkered down with no flexibility, or take small chances now and then.  Some pay off big.

Correct, its up to each individual to make that call.   Usually people are being honest. 

What is expensive to me may not be expensive to another.  Judgement call for sure.

I remember reading this somewhere before I made my decision. Ebay has so much fraud that I don't even care to deal with something that's slightly suspicious. The address he requested to send it to is in the same city. Maybe he changed it officially and I could've still sold it to him after the update, but it's still not worth the risk, especially since he only asked if I could deliver it to another address and didn't give any explanation as to why.

PayPal has the option of adding multiple shipping addresses other than a primary address to your profile which should come up when making payment on eBay similar to the option on Amazon. Any buyer using PayPal as their preferred method of payment should be aware of this before making a purchase they intend to have shipped to a different location

He purchased a book from me last night and today he sent me a message asking to ship to a different address. I already printed the label with the Ebay provided address and I don't ship to any address other than this. I cancelled the transaction and sent a message to the buyer asking him to update his address on ebay. I've added the seller to my blocked list, so even if he updates the address I won't be selling to him. 

Since I press books, I have customers who will buy books on eBay and have them to me from the seller in order to not have to double ship the book. In general I don’t mind shipping to other addresses as a seller.
Larger ticket items, I’d probably insist on shipping it directly to buyer for them to forward.

If a buyer asked me to ship to an address different than the one they have set in eBay I'd cancel their order and block them.

I'd refuse, but that's it. Doesn't really hurt to ask. There have been times where I have purchased a comic as a gift, and wished I could have it sent to the person's house.
