Something needs to be done to stop the upward spiral.

Initial info shows people just have not seen anything that peaked their interest or they are waiting for something that great to come along for various reasons. Zero out of the initial 10 people could not afford $75 worth of books to participate.

People want to be able to take MOAR dammit! :sumo:

Why take something really "generous" today when something even MORE "generous" could pop up tomorrow! Heaven forbid! It's sad. Maybe this thread was a bad idea and just overly optimistic on my part.

Swick,

Just ignore certain people. The thread is moving along fine and you have a ton of interest in only a few days. You can not please everyone so don't even try. Some will complain if the offers are too nice, others will complain if they are drek. Others are suggesting some form of socialism.

Keep doing your thing. :)

I like the current offering - I'm just not sure if I have anything to offer that would be fair or what anyone would want.

Most of my stash is mid grade silver - mostly Marvel. Seems people gravitate toward the higher grades here, even if it's higher grade bronze / copper over a lower grade silver age. Which makes sense being this is a CGC board where emphasis (it seems to me) is on well preserved books.

Or....maybe people that are left that haven't taken a offer are not interested in those particular books???

That's a good offer.

Many of us already have them all or did own them at one point. This is a tough board.... Most of us are or were heavy collectors.

If you could find one item to offer among your other stuff, that you just know everybody doesn't own, it would draw more interest.

While there are certainly many here who are high-grade fanatics, I know there are many here (including myself) who prefer mid/low-grade books.... :)

The current offer is very nice, but I pass up those same books at the LCS and on board sales. It's a great value but I'm waiting to claim something that'd be permanent for me. I'd sell these within a week of getting them and that doesn't seem right.

+1

As I mentioned, I own just about all of these or else I would have jumped on it. I see this as like a great "starters bundle" Get some nice keys to jump start your collection.

For me it's just that there are fewer positive outcomes for playing here than negative outcomes. If I take something and someone takes my offer that's great. If I take something and my offer sits for three days my board name is besmirched. If I take something and the offerer decides my offer is substandard my board name is besmirched. If I take something and the person whose offer I take just doesn't like me my board name is besmirched. The main one I worry about is the second. If the current offer can stand for this long how long will $60-$120 slabs take?

I'd take a $60 unslabbed FF in a heartbeat

I disagree about the neg outcomes-there's only been one strike given. Wall crawler will not be besmirched or get a strike if no one takes those books-everyone agrees its a very generous offer its just people already have them or in my case I dont care for those artists.

I picked this up today at a local Comic Con thinking about this thread the whole time. I'd like to offer up this exclusive lithograph which was signed by Steranko this morning. I'd like to add it as an option B to Wall Crawler's offerings. Wall Crawler doesn't need to send me his books if the lithograph is selected - my gift to a board member. I would ask that the board member who takes it has the intention of mounting it and finding a nice place for it. The piece is approximately 24" x 18" wide.

ps I mean no disrespect to Wall Crawlers offer - I thinks its a great set of books. Hope this litho finds a good home.

People aren't getting strikes if they offered a generally accepted generous offer - as the current one undeniably is a generous offer. So please - everyone - do NOT worry about getting a strike if you offer something generous and it is not taken. (thumbs u

:news::news::news::news::news::news:

I thought of an idea that would allow people to take more than one thing a month. Occasionally, the thread will stall and an offer, even a generous one, will go unclaimed. When that happens, someone will have to GIVE and offer something without getting anything in return. If a person takes initiative and does a good deed by offering up a generous offer that is claimed without taking something themselves, they should be rewarded, right? hm One additional "take it" for the month. There will be no building up of more than one "take it" at any time. Just an idea I wanted to throw out there and see what you guys thought.

Thoughts?
