nearmint
With Hollywood, A LOT can happen in 5 years too...That is what I find interesting with most of DC's film announcements... Exactly, this whole strategy if you can call it that reeks of desperation on WB's part. How so? They've seen the success that Marvel Studios has had with their stable of characters. Why wouldn't Warner Brothers try to mirror that success?

Bosco685
That is going to be a huge Black Adam. Hopefully, Shazam can match him when it comes to body size.

slym2none
Hollywood would find a way to Hollywood it up and make it nearly un-recognisable. -slym
VintageComics
Just make this into a movie. If DC had half a brain, they'd make a multi sequel movie franchise out of Kingdom Come ala The Hobbit. It would leap frog them into Marvel territory.

It would leap frog them into Marvel territory. What makes you think this isn't being considered already? It's been tossed around before. Of course DC has to build familiarity with the characters and appeal to the 'regular' audiences that aren't rabid comic afficionados. Nonetheless, my point is that there is likely to be development of the biggest DC storylines ITF and this definitely fits the bill.

I know there's a lot of Characters in that storyline so they don't have to make an origin of each hero. It looks like to be the trend in films. In the LOTR films instead of origins they did a prologue. Edited December 2, 2014 by vane

Bosco685
SHAZAM Is Set In The DC Cinematic Universe; James Gunn Would Direct If He Could ----------------- For a variety of reasons, some comic book fans believe that Shazam (which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam) will NOT be set in the DC Cinematic Universe. Have DC Comics themselves finally set the record straight? It appears that way, as a blog post from the comic book publisher highlights the announcement of a DC Cinematic Universe, pointing out that Warner Bros., "revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe." ----------------- And you can't have a CBM article without a James Gunn reference now. ----------------- Like Guardians of the Galaxy, Shazam will more than likely just expand the DC Cinematic Universe! Talking of that Marvel team, director James Gunn was asked on Facebook whether he would like to helm a DC Comics movie and if he is precluded (prevented from) making one. "I am precluded. Would have loved to have done Shazam." -----------------

Bosco685
I never knew that about Black Adam. --------------- When uttering the words “SHAZAM!,” Adam is instead empowered by: Shu, giving him stamina and invulnerability Heru or Horus, giving him flight and speed Amon, providing him super strength Zehutti, or Thoth, giving him access to godly level of knowledge, magical and mundane Aton, providing the magic lightning that transforms Adam Mehen, giving him courage and godly degree of inner strength ---------------

Bosco685
The Rock Clarifies Anti-Hero BLACK ADAM Comment; Talks About Facing 'Batman' & 'Superman' ----------------- Johnson previously referred to the live-action incarnation of the character as an "anti-hero", suggesting that we may not be looking at a simple good VS. evil story when the movie hits in a few years time. "I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero," he explains when asked about this. "It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilized them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology." That seems to suggest that he'll definitely be a full-on antagonist in Shazam, but the potential is there for him to be fleshed out a bit more sympathetically in future movies. Speaking of which, Johnson also talks about one day facing off against the likes of the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight when DC's cinematic universe finally begins to take shape. "It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected" he reaffirms. "One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humor." -----------------

Bosco685
Is 'Shazam!' Coming Sooner Than We Thought? ---------------------- On the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Dwayne Johnson said that not only was Shazam! moving along, but that it may well be coming out sooner than anyone is expecting. The current school of thought is that Shazam! is still four years away, with a rumored release year of 2019. When asked about this by MTV, here's what Johnson had to say: "You know, it may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The -script is coming in. It's great. The support from the studio has been great. It's just a great opportunity. Especially with Black Adam, where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into an anti-hero. We can make him vicious, a little bit of winking charm." Johnson, of course, is playing Black Adam- the primary antagonist in the film. As for who will be playing Captain Marvel himself, aka Shazam, Johnson simply says, "We don't know yet." ----------------------
