So this book had no visible defects when it left for C&P/grading outside of some non color breaking spine stress, came back 5.0 with no graders notes. Upon inspection, back cover is mangled. I understand inherent dangers of submitting but this has got to be outside of acceptable limits right!?

Sheesh, mangled is the right word.

What is it with cowardly employees? "Hey boss. I screwed up." Are people afraid to say that these days?

Seriously though, this is horrible business. Who in the hell is overseeing stuff there, if anyone?

You would think they should be embarrassed, but I highly doubt it.

@CGC Mike What is the rule on grader notes? I can see not having them maybe for a 9.8 or 9.6, but how in the heck does a 5.0 not have grader notes?

Our policy is mentioned at the bottom.

CGC Grader Notes

What are CGC Grader Notes?

When CGC graders examine a collectible, they may enter comments about its condition. These “Grader Notes” describe problems, indicate the condition of the interior pages, and help explain why a collectible received the grade it did. After the first grader enters notes and their grade, the next grader can review those notes and can make any additional notes. For collectibles with the purple CGC Restored Grade label, Restoration Notes are given that describe the location and type of restoration. These notes are a valuable part of the grading process, and CGC makes Grader Notes available online for Authorized Dealers and paid members.

Sample Grader Notes

Some commonly used CGC Grader Notes include:

  • Right Center Front Cover Lite Fingerprints
  • Top Spine Water Damage
  • Left Center Back Cover Moderate Erasure Mark
  • Spine Small Stress Lines
  • Staple Rusted w/Rust Stained Interior
  • Interior Heavy Tanning
  • Bottom Right Front Cover Large Crease
  • Top Right Front Cover Restoration Color Touch
  • Left Center Back Cover Restoration Tear Seal

Grader Notes Fee

Grader Notes are free for CGC Authorized Dealers and paid members (if available)!

Grader Notes are available in the Verify CGC Certification tool at CGCcomics.com/verify.

To see if any collectibles in your submissions have Grader Notes, log in and click “My Submissions.” Then click “View Status.”

Important Notes

  • CGC Grader Notes are not entered for every CGC-certified collectible. They are entered at the discretion of CGC’s graders.
  • CGC Grader Notes do not necessarily describe every defect on a CGC-certified collectible.
  • Pre-screen submissions that do not meet the submitter’s minimum grade (i.e., “Pre-Screen rejects”) do not get CGC Grader Notes.

I don’t even understand what’s happening here.  Is the back cover now folded onto itself, or is it sliced right through?

I assume you realize the concern here with a book graded a 5.0.

I do and recommend the customer contact customer service about this.  If he doesn't want to, he can PM me his submission number and I will contact them.

ugh  Does CGC really want to be known as a grading company that damages the very items they're grading?  I can't think of anything more damaging to CGC's reputation.

Theres a lot more that can,  but this is probably the top thing

I remember saying in another thread that once CGC teaches their staff how to handle comics, they'll be on top again

Given that customer service hasn't responded to an inquiry about mislabeled books from a week ago, maybe I'll have better luck going through you. PM on the way.

Your copy of Manhunt is another example.

I think it's fair to say THIS is your Super Villain Origin Story.
