BOOT
Mr. Robot Man, Tapping into your vast memory banks...can you please tell me, do you have any information on this metal tray featuring Opper's Alphonse and Gaston? And do you know of others like it? Thanks!
Robot Man
Although I don't have one, I have seen a couple different ones that are similar. Probably came in an even numbered set. There isn't much out there for that fair. I have seen a couple of these, and a Buster Brown and Yellow Kid pieces from the 1904 fair. Comic characters were still in their infantatcy at that time. Maybe Yellow Kid can chime in.
Yellow Kid
Outcault was at the 1904 fair in St. Louis trying to sell licenses to his characters. The Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis saw the obvious potential of licensing Buster Brown, and the rest is history. Although there were other comic character tie-in's to the fair, both licensed and unlicensed (as was the practice in those days), I don't remember seeing any involving the Yellow Kid or Buster Brown. Robot Man
Seems to me I have seen a brochure or flyer with Buster and the Kid in it and maybe a Pinback button with Buster Brown with a 1904 date on it years ago. But, I don't know that for a fact anymore. Yellow Kid would be the authority on this though. There could be stuff so rare that even he hasn't seen it though. That is what makes this hobby so fun. Most of the fairs had the comic characters of the time represented one way or another.
Robot Man
I got a request for a subset from someone for today's. (You know who you are when you see this). I was asked for a Matt Baker non-romance subset. I have a lot of his non-romance work but because I like 'em and the guy who requested it is also a Crime fiend like me, I thought I'd do these. Enjoy!
