My recollection is that my copies have staples.  Did you check for staple holes in your copy?  Possibly it was a publishing error.  One Christmas while visiting my old friend, Leonard Brown, at Collectors Bookstore, he had just bought ten NM/M copies of #20 and #41 from a guy who had 20 copies of each, and he didn't comment about #41 not having staples.  Attached is a picture of the next Donald Duck in the March of Comics series and it clearly had staples so I am guessing that if your copy of #41 doesn't have staples, it was an error.  Ask clilnk if they have the grader's notes.

I looked at several scans on early issues can’t find any evidence for staples.  Not obvious anyway.    Keep folks posted what I find.

I didn't get tempted by much at Cloud 9 (and couldn't get the shopping cart function to quote shipping to Australia, and ended up giving up). But I did get my duck fix this week when this rolled up at the letter box. An eBay cheapie - I was hoping it was fineish based on the poor photo. It is indeed fineish, so I'm happy.

I've got an EBay WD Comics Digest coming this week that looked unread; fingers crossed

Did anyone watch the Dell Giants go off on Heritage last night. I was trying for the Lady and Tramp Giant but didn't feel like bidding too much. But some of those giants went for crazy prices; like Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland for $1800 and Mickey Mouse in Frontierland for $900 including commission. Anyway, nutty prices all around for what used to a back water collecting spot with little interest.

Well if you’re looking for relative “bargains” in the comic world, nothing beats the quality/price ratio and historic value of GA/SA Duck books especially when compared to prices of super hero books today… these books have been stagnant for ages and it’s about time they see gains.

The Lady and the Tramp Giant has found a good home.  Be disappointed it didn’t end up in your collection but happy knowing it won’t be flipped, pressed, or slabbed:flamed:.

I wondered about the MM in Fantasyland, too— it went for something like 7x Guide raw.  No Barks’ art, six census copies in 9.4 plus a 9.6. GPA shows a 9.2 selling for $225 last year.

Other than the usual auction craziness I thought of two possibilities:

—The scans showed a really sweet copy.  Somebody (actually two or more somebodies) with far better knowledge of CGC grading than me might have thought it would grade as a 9.6;

—It’s an “art” back cover instead of an “ad” back cover. I’ve no idea, but is it possible that only a few “art” issues exist in high grade?

Anybody know what the contents of this issue are? It's a book I've wondered about and my inner completist wouldn't mind getting it one day. This one sold on Heritage today (not to me).

Congratulations. Yes these giants are by no means rare except in Uber High Grade. That MM in FL though is just ridiculous; that must have been a couple of collectors really wanting that copy.

I can see where Barks got some of his drawing style for Donald from Jack Hannah!

Boy all the Dell Giants up for bid really makes me remember how much I loved finding those as a kid. Of course my books are all pretty beat up as they mostly came out of garage sales and flea markets. They are well loved! But those books always contained some fun surprises and it was always great when you found a Barks story in them. I never found Vacation Parade #1 or Christmas Parade #1 or #2 in the wild but bought them via the mail or at shows and they really contain some of Barks best stories.

I also first read the original Phantom Blot story in one on the Mickey Mouse giants!

Honestly some of the more eclectic titles were always some of my favorites; Scrooge and Daisy Showboat and Donald and his Nephews Dude Ranch come to mind.

And of course the very elusive Peter Pan Treasure Chest represented the nadir of giants with 256 pages of fun for your 50 cents!!
