I have a thing for pedigree Duck books. It seems like most Pedigrees did not collect ducks so selection is rather scarce.

Too true, unfortunately.

I've been struck by the relative absence (so far) of Duck books in the Promise collection.

I'm sure you and I are not the only ones keeping a close watch. lol

Walt Disney Comics Digests were a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I've been trolling EBay looking for the occasional copy that pops up that looks nice or unread. I found this one last week and it arrived yesterday. These digests had some fantastic reprints from Western's vast library. This particular issue reprints the entirety of the post Four Color Mickey Mouse Album from Dell  and an Alex Toth Zorro story from Four Color 1003. As usual a Barks tale from WDCS kicks things off. The cover feature, The Biscuit Eater is actually an illustrated text piece and not a comic; it's never been reprinted.

It's hard for my eyes to read these stories in this format today but as a kid this was one of the greatest ways to find and read the old Dell comics.

My favorite issue of the digest reprints four great Barks stories.  I had many of the originals, but after reading digest #44 many times, decided to collect a set of Barks Four Color originals. Whitman reprinted this digest under their label.

Picked up some great books today.

A little dirty, but can be dry cleaned. super flat and crisp.

Maybe a 9.0 - 9.2?

Once again a little dirty, but can be dry cleaned. An 8.0 - 8.5, if pressed and cleaned maybe higher.

Almost flawless for this old of a book. I would say a 9.4.

Will send these out next year to get graded.

Very nice ones!!! Well done!

Sure you want to grade them? They have so nice stories inside that I would love to read again and again...

Anybody pick up anything from the Cloud 9 collection? I’m debating a couple books but the shipping to Canada is astronomical 😭

I got 3 books from Ken (waiting to receive them soon): however many of them were in the low grades, so I picked up a very rare one, plus other two.

I'll post them as soon as they're in my hands ;)

That was a big deal when it came out. I still have my Whitman copy. I believe I had read about it in the Buyer's Guide and went looking for it but by then Gold Key comics had already started to be sporadically distributed so I found the Whitman copy in a discount department store. By that time I had already managed to pick up some very rough originals of the four color series but Mummy's Ring would not have been among them. The Best of Walt Disney Comics series that came out the following year was an even better format and I got to read Frozen Gold and Ghost of the Grotto for the first time. Only a Poor Old Man was also reprinted but I had read that already. I still have those books too along with the Dynabrite series a few years later. The high end Barks reprinting had started!

Beautiful copy; must have been disappointing to buy off the stands with such a great cover and find the story wasn't by Barks! Barks seemed to have a thing for rubber plantations though; I recall more than one story involving them. Maybe his source material had a bunch of articles on them or something; National Geographic perhaps. And I guess every Octo-Mega-Gazillionaire  like Scrooge would have to own some rubber plantations!

I was doing some collection maintenance today and got a few books out for the first time in a while. I thought I'll give them an airing here too.

Absolutely gorgeous cartooning. These Barks covers are some of the best comic covers I've ever seen. That sailboat one is gorgeous - and your copy presents like it's high grade, even!!

No some of the early sixties Gold Keys had dialogue. Part of the transition. They also had square word balloons in those early Gold Key issues.

Correction I just went on GCD and looked and I did not remember properly. Those early Gold Key covers had multiple story taglines on multi panel covers but no word balloons. They did have square balloons inside though.
