Incredible Hulk #181 - is it *that* red-hot?

Yeah that example is not too relevant at this point. A sale from February 16th may as well be from 5 years ago. There have been a number of market resetting auctions since then as you pointed out. If a GSXM 9.8 can approach 70k no reason 181 9.8 can't easily surpass that.

By the same logic, I'm very interested to see where the 9.8 Werewolf by Night 32 on ComicLink will end this week.  It's a notoriously hard book to get in high grade and is already at $45K as of today with 2 days of bidding left.  If Hulk 181 truly is THE book to have for BA, then it should lead both GSX and WbN32.

doesnt this mean the world is ending and the economy is crashing?!?!

Totally healthy to have a pull back.  The upward momentum is becoming unsustainable.

I assume having high grades sell would semi stabilize..... the fmv

Given to run it up higher, there has to be someone with that amount of spare funds floating around at the right time etc

If it gives it a breather to give a more natural run up, then I'm all for it, really as y'all stated might even be a healthy sign?

still, I think now that the upper values are somewhat determined with a couple of sales that

lower still might catch up a bit

maybe that determines even more if another high grade comes to market?

Just kind of speculating, I'm not as "familiar" as everyone else, and it shows lol

Personally I'm ok with high grade stabilizing as most of my keys are not above 8 or 9 range

However, I believe the increase in prices of high grade keys have placed them out of the range of many and the increase in lower grade prices is due to what people can actually afford. My 181 is 6.5 and as I noted earlier in the thread, a few recents have sold for over $7K. That has been an incredible increase in just the past few months.

You guys think in a few years the hulk 181 in cgc 8.0 and higher will come back down to around an 8.0 being about $8,000 and a 9.0 being about $9,000 or so you think the new prices will be the set benchmark for those grades?

A Hulk 181 in 9.4 sold for $21,655 last night on Ebay.  I think thats a record!

I think it is yeah but not being able to check an archive list on C-link I can't be sure. There was a 9.4 on Clink last week auction for a bit over 18k. Looking at GPA it's way higher than the last sale of over 15k in January which was by far the previous high. This 21k is from a reputable seller so its legit. Interesting that it was one of those short duration auctions with a high starting bid and still ended at that lofty price :whatthe:! Those types of auctions usually don't work out well for the seller. I think what this will do is slow down the market for top grades severely and redound to the 7s and 8s where the action will go.

What is every ones opinion on re-submitting Hulk 181 for clean and press and re-holder? Is it worth it or toooo dangerous?

5.5 off white pages    graded when they put the page color under title

9.2  off white pages       old dark blue label

9.4 cream to off white pages   graded when they put the page color under the title

thanks in advance

Are they dirty?  Do they have pressable defects?

this book is insane sold a cgc 6.0 for 2k. try selling it on FB for 2.5k no takers and low balls offer. finally sold on bay for 2k. now is worth 6.5k :pullhair:

:whatthe:  I'm totally blown away by the EXPLOSIVE rise in value. I bought my 9.2 back in 2011 for 2k and thought I overpaid to scratch a mid-life crises itch?  Because I never owned the book but always wanted to and that was about as much as I was willing to pay back then.

I felt I had lost my mind to pay 2k for a comic and now I think everyone else out there have lost their minds paying 20k and above for a single comic.  People have money and no where else to spend it I guess.

But no complaints from me!  I LOVE the rising prices!:insane:

Good Timing though! While we're on stories.

When I joined in 2016, I had already joined the registry in 2015, but didn't have any books inputed in yet lol

Anyway, I had just got done with a major con where I had submitted 4 books for Stan Lee to sign (ah to be a noob, today I don't know that I'd have the guts ha), of those 4, the 1st 2 were IH 180 & 181

Anyway, I was informed about pressing, so I joined the boards to see how my books would fair if resubmitted lol

Ah how the time goes by, for sure it's been a learning and fun experience for sure, we collected what we loved; we were somewhat compensated for our interests

I purchased my 9.0 back in late 2013 for a little less than what you paid for your 9.2 and felt EXACTLY the same way. Glad I bought when I did. No way would I pay today’s asking prices.
