nice! The MM4 is Subby fever for most. It sold for about 20% more than I anticipated. The 1st Subby cover is finally waking collectors (or investors) up.

To me, it’s the first nazi flag cover. I know it’s Top Notch 4 that has the first German insignia, but Timely is what I equate as the penultimate WWII comic, and this is the first of the lot. Yes, first Subby cover. I was guessing that might be a motivator for the spirited bidding

I imagine it most probably would have been very early on because in his video with David, Richard said that he first met Billy in the first year that he opened up his store and by that point in time, Billy was already missing only 4 issues from finishing off his complete run of Marvel Mystery Comics. :gossip:

I met Billy in the first year that I opened the store. Billy had zero Timelys at that point. He started collecting them later.

My bad then as I guess I should never believe all the things that I see and hear on this darn internet of ours:  hm

Just heard Richard Evans on YouTube re: early days of comicons, Burrel Rowe, Larsons, Fischler, Jon Verzyl, Mannarino, Timely's, Planet Comics, CGC and sharing his personal collection of gold in Sept, 2022.

I was thinking back to about the 3-minute mark of this video where some weird looking dude starts talking about his copy of Marvel Mystery 72 and then at the 4:25 mark where he talked about Billy's run of Marvel Mystery.  I should have known that you can never trust anybody wearing a Houston Astros jersey.  (shrug)  lol

BTW:  That's a great story about your copy of Marvel Mystery 72 and what comic book collecting between friends is all about.  :applause:

In true, full pulp like Schomburg fashion too. I love the French war ship in the back ground and Death 💀 Raider 🚢 ship. Always sort of bugged me that Schomburg did not get Everett’s memo to draw ankle wings on Subby’s feet, but oh well (:

I can’t believe we’re still saying PLOD with the sales realized over the past 5 years.

Obviously restored is cheaper than universal, but they sell just as fast and at strong prices imo.

That's good news for me because I will be the "King of PLOD's" in Comiclink's October Focused Auction.  :acclaim::banana:

Although the use of reverse pyschology or playing hard to get might have worked for you in the past with the chicks down in Texas, I don't think it's going to help you to get your hands onto this one of a kind GA rarity.  lol

Hmm, that's good to hear I guess? My check went through 9/27 and no movement since.

I do fully understand that they may need to give my book up to 3 weeks of their legendary processing, packing and shipping.  :whatev:

I paid when the auction ended with a credit card, it was not a super expensive book, so I figured I'd take the airline points I will probably never need and paid the 3%..
