Not really. There were some variants, but it was nothing at all like now.

I agree, the variant craze is a lot worse now.

This feels like the early 90s.  Variants, crazy speculation on books, books just released selling for silly money, and LCS' shorting their pull file customers so they can put those hot books on the wall.  Now we have the internet, nut jobs like Dylan getting attention, 'influencers', and CGC grading added to the mix. 

What's obvious to me is that this is all about greed.  Too many people in this hobby are here to make quick money and not enough actually love and respect the medium.
