This arrived yesterday.

I love that date stamp! I was exactly one week old on December 22, 1958. I also have a 4.0 copy but, for some reason, mine has a date stamp from 1961.

The date stamp was a significant selling point for me.  Fandom lists the official publication date as December 23, 1958.  So the book got stamped on the day before it went on the rack.

One random question: does anyone know why Overstreet lists Flash 106 as "scarce"?

It has been listed that way since the 1970's. I believe at that time it was rarely seen. Over the last 40+ years many more copies have surfaced, still many Flash collectors feel it is hard to find especially in mid grade or above. Scarce use to mean 20-100 copies known to exist. Currently there are 400 in the census so we are well past 100 copies at this point and then there are all the raw copies out there like mine :cloud9:.

Not a crazy story or anything. I picked it up at Heroescon this past weekend. Stoked to have it my collection.

I wonder if there's a disproportionate number slabbed because of the perception that it is scarce.  They don't pop up on ebay very often, that's for sure.  I was lucky to snag a copy last year on Comic Connect.

I'm sure many are slabbed just because its a 106 and a very valuable book. Mine is not slabbed because it would probably grade at 1.5 so....and I would never sell it so....it is less likely to get slabbed in my life time. 2nd issues (106 is technically a 2nd issue) sometimes had smaller print runs than the first issues. I know that data is out there so we could compare with 105 that would be interesting. I had a general calculation of my own we can try it here but its really just a wild guess. It goes like this: with 400 slabbed multiply that by 7 and you get 2800 surviving copies of 106 potentially?

I would have gone for it as well with that full date stamp being three days before Christmas 🎄 :x

Here are the first four Flash appearances in Showcase, in all their glory.

I have now accomplished my goal of obtaining all of the SA Flash villains' first appearances.

Showcase #8 CGC 2.5 - First Captain Cold
Showcase #13 CGC 4.0 - First Mr. Element
Showcase #14 CGC 3.5 - First Dr. Alchemy
Flash #105 CGC 2.0 - First Mirror Master
Flash #106 CGC 3.5 - First Pied Piper and first Grodd
Flash #110 CGC 5.0 - First Weather Wizard
Flash #113 CGC 7.5 - First Trickster
Flash #117 CGC 4.5 - First Captain Boomerang
Flash #122 CGC 4.5 - First Top
Flash #128 CGC 5.0 - First Abra Kadabra
Flash #139 raw - First Professor Zoom - This will be going to @joeypost and then to CGC with my next submission, which may not be for a while.
Flash #140 CGC 5.5 - First Heat Wave

I need only two more books, and I believe I will be satisfied with my Flash collection. I need to get Flash #121 (Trickster cover) and Flash #174 (classic cover) in CGC 7.0 or higher. I might possibly add Flash #112 (first Elongated Man). I wouldn't mind adding other Flash books to my collection, but I have collecting goals that I would like to focus on now.

Bravo! :golfclap:
