The first video of the 2 posted, "It came from the Newsstands" was quite a good breakdown of the situation albeit a tad lengthy but still a good watch with regards to the topic. After watching a couple hours of that i never checked the 2nd one out but could be good as well.

I went on a king marathon in late September right up to about Halloween. Silver Bullet was crazier than I remember it from way back. Psychological terror to say the least lol. I have quite the collection of his films. Always a pleasure to watch some King stuff. Dark Tower by far my favorite King books and really hope they redo that series from scratch at some point as that series deserves a solid movie run.

Adamantium I love you buddy and your investigation skills. This was just a mishandled book on cgc's part no question. There's no mystery here.

If you sent that in for a signing it doesn't matter what condition you think it was. What matters is the condition after everyone involved in the signing, including the signer, has handled it. That's the risk that comes with signings.
As for page color... like grades, it's all subjective. Send it in again, it may get a 9.9 and white pages. 🤷
def not gonna get a 9.9 lmfao
It's not what I think the condition was. Look at the pictures. It's what the condition was. But in the everyone handles the book aspect you are right. Doubt the signer f'd up the spine though. Bad case crack mayhaps idk

If you want to remove finger prints or something of that nature CGC pressing isn't a bad option. If you want to remove creasing it'll likely be a hit or miss and they may still be there after pressing from my experience. Not a bad option for after a signing where the artist may have touched the book a few times type of thing.

Doesn't CGC scan photos of books now?
Yeah since June / July I believe. My late May books have no scans but July 14th ones do.

Just learn how to handle our high grade books CGC. Not happy.
9 freaking ASM 9.8's I filter out the best 5 and they pull this on one of my good books.

oH LIGHT SPINE STRESS LINES THAT DIDN'T EXIST WHEN i SUBMITTED THE BOOK? YOU DON'T SAY?!!?? Little color breaking ticks on the back too? Par for the game I guess. Oh wait white pages are now off white / white too ? Sitting outside of a cgc case for 2-3 months in balmy florida warehouse weather do that to a book? 3rd one it has that were all graded recently in 9.8 white pages.

Makes me wonder if someone didn't pay attention and just last minute bid with the prices of those 2 ASMs thinking they were getting a steal of a deal and not rusty steel. I mean for an extra $50-100 you can have the same book minus the rusty staples.
-
Couple other books that the seller unfortunately had this happen to them both went for pretty darn good prices considering rusty staples. I did get a laugh out of the ASM 212 with rusted staples as there couldn't be a better cover to have rusted staples than this Adds to Hydro-Man's 1st appearance and skill set I suppose.
Here's a pic of a couple more I mentioned.
Seller really didn't lose too much on those books at all.

Bottom corner looks to be hung up on something like a piece of plastic where the tear is and the bottom tear IMO couldn't have happened from anywhere on the case other than that larger shard of plastic that's freely floating around close by under it as it's roughly the same size but I thought all books were incased in another inner well and that shouldn't be possible normally. I've never seen this kind of damage other than CGC damaging a book during encapsulation for that bottom part. Sorry to see this happened to you however it possibly did. Definitely a strange incident.

Found this on ebay currently stated in NM condition. Not sure what type of condition the ones you're looking at currently are in or if you're after a set condition though. If the books you are looking at buying are in decent shape it's probably safe to say it's a good buy as there's quite a bit of time left in this auction.
-
Sorry to hear about this. That's a rough biscuit to swallow. I can't believe the thief would be so stupid as to try and list them at auction houses online but it probably wouldn't hurt to notify any local or state auctions that occur as well as major comic auction houses. Wish you the best in recovering your books also.

Wild guess as my grading contest results can attest to but I'll go with 6.0-6.5 ;-)

Why would I need a digital camera to photograph something from 1977?
Any camera will work.
I didn't cash the check because somehow, in a family of 8, it was forgotten about.
And as far as premonitions go, I believe in them and live them. After this conversation matured into what it is now, I was thinking exactly that: That it is amazing that 36 years later, saving this check BY ACCIDENT worked out very well for me.
But then I truly believe that nothing in life is co-incidence and that everything truly and genuinely happens for a reason. I know a lot of people just say that, but believe it and live that way every day.
Buying a few Hulk 181's at $1.25 each with that $11 dollars would have worked out a tad better for you

I hate the whole "customer is king" mantra. It leads to such entitlement in the real world. Undeserved entitlement and unrealistic expectations. 'The customer is always right'? Whoever came up with that saying needs to be shot.

Yep... I know there are some out there trying to build CGC 9.8 W sets of later ASMs. Just too much space to store them all. And of course, the time and expense to get them submitted. That said, I have submitted some books specifically because it's so hard to sell them unless they are graded. If I tell someone a comic is 9.6 and ask for $30, someone might offer $10-15. If I pay $40 to get it graded and shipped to MyComics, someone might pay $65. So, I can make $25 versus $10-15. The math doesn't add when it's a lower dollar books, obviously...
Yeah agreed. The same goes for me in regards to space
I'm working on a 200 or so to 328 cgc 9.8 run atm and if I get that done in the next few years I'll start backtracking downwards from 200 and probably figure out where I'm going to go into the 9.6s as some of them are kinda pricey in the 100-200 range. I might just focus on keys and get into the 100-200 later on too as at least Silver age looks to be holding up some semblance of balance price wise with the decline of the market overall.

Biggest issue with the majority of ASM issues other than the odd few such as the first Cletus, first Carnage, SM 2099 along with a couple Larson Venom covers and the cosmic Carnage 430/431 combo, the vast majority of books from say 330-700 aren't ever going to be worth one's while to pay 30 dollars a book. If one was to get them graded and try and make anything off of them, add in 25 + 5 S&H to get them graded, and you're at 60USD per book. Now that's if they are 100% all 9.8s which isn't gonna happen anytime on god's green earth with an ebay lot. Those books mostly are going to sell for 60-75USD slabbed in CGC 9.8 blue label if you're lucky. The more modern the book the less and less the price other than rare variants I suppose. There's no possible good outcome from paying anything near this amount. The only real benefit is not having to buy each slab on it's own and paying much more for individual shipping per book from each seller if you plan on keeping them all in your collection yourself and you do come up with a rare high amount of 9.8s somehow. Those prices are absolutely insane for raw books of this type. As someone mentioned previously I'd agree on maybe $10 per book if in really nice condition.

Having been contacted in the past by Heritage as the under-bidder when the winning bidder did not pay (they offered to allow me to purchase at my last bid) - I feel pretty confident that the under-bidder will be contacted on this sale and that person too should respectfully decline.
Here are 6.0 results from GPA
yeah the 6.0 prices. Sorry I meant more in the direction of all prices as there was some that looked like ppl were pumping up the 9-0 - 9.6 prices when they were garbage for awhile and some were going for ridiculously higher than they should have been. Appreciate the info on that grade at any rate ;-)
-
The prices I saw on a couple were absolutely ridiculous. Can anyone share the last 2-3 years prices on that book as I'm not sure if the ones i saw were followed up by an actual purchase in the higher priced ones?
-
Definitely not 6.0's but a 9.0 or something went for a stupid price.
