Did the pulp equivalent of a dollar bin dive.  Most of these were under 5 bucks on mcs.

Fun load! Reminds me of flea market pricing although $5 pulps are usually $10 these days when I am luckily enough to find some. Nothing better than a pile of comics or pulps priced “each”.

Think I got your copy, found last year on ebay. :)20240217_144720.thumb.jpg.bc26baf8dc58b492c9f2f8322111d5bd.jpg

Yep, that's it!  I often wonder what happened to some of the items I used to have.  Most were purchased while I was gathering final data on the original 2001 guide (probably bought 1998-2000), and I concentrated on issues I felt were scarce.  I sold nearly all of them off a few years later during one of the PulpCons back when it was held in Dayton.  I had 3 different copies of the "rare" Vice Squad Detective, but I didn't keep scans of them.

Very nice, Surf has some Friday fun for this thread as well :)

Nice H.J. Ward bondage cover on this one. I have quite a few Private Detective's including #1, since they were, relatively reasonable for Ward cover pulps when I got into them 5 or so years ago. Not so much anymore but I still look around for them.

Really nice one! The rare Blue dress pops! I have noticed the steeper prices on the Private Detective pulps...but I do have one on the way. Stay tuned...

Congratulations!  I personally don't think the book is that rare, relatively speaking, particularly compared to other pulps of that age.  But that really doesn't matter in terms of its importance and value. I've described it as the Amazing Fantasy #15 of pulps in that regard.

I wonder if we should start an Amazing Stories 1928 club thread on the forums...

If you create a thread for Amazing Stories 1928, here are some interesting facts:

Amazing Stories (1928) is the 1st appearance of Buck Rogers - predating his appearance in newspapers. Next was in a Kellogg's promotion (1933) followed by Famous Funnies #3 (1934), followed by newspaper comic strip reprints in Buck Rogers #1 (1940). I believe the next original comic story does no appear until Famous Funnies #209 (1953).

Flash Gordon, who was created to compete against Buck, first appeared in newspapers as a comic strip (1934). His 1st appearance in comic books were reprints of those newspaper comic strips, King Comics #1 (1936). The next documented appearance was in Four Color #10 (1941). I cannot determine if this is color newspaper reprints or an original story. If it's a color reprint, the potential first original appearance of Flash in a comic book would be Flash Gordon #1 (1966).
