So what's the current policy on Mystery Boxes as long as there's no "chance" option? In other words if I'm offering up a Mystery Box for $50 shipped but there are at least 60 books in each box. Is that allowed?
Line 16 of the rules.

Mystery boxes are not allowed. You must list everything you are selling exactly as the buyer will receive it.

Strictly speaking, this time what Chip was offering were not "mystery boxes". Buyers knew what they were buying for that price, and there were additional "filler" books, so I believe there is an excessively strict application of this rule on the moderators' part.

Unrelated to this site, I purchased some tpbs and a couple of comics. That gave me free shipping from the seller. The fact that comics are not allowed to be shipped via Media Mail, I never thought twice about it until the seller sent the tracking info. Darn Media Mail.

Guess what happened? Package was scanned delivered but missing. Someone was home all day and the package was never delivered. I spoke to the mailman the next morning at the loading dock (I didn't recognize him so I am not even sure that he was my mailman) and he swears he delivered a package to me and upstairs. Go upstairs and they weren't even expecting a package from the post office nor did they receive one. (They did get one from FedEx same day) None of my neighbors ever saw a package outside my door. They all enter the building at different times too. I got several packages this holiday season without any problems.

I have emailed the seller three times since Tuesday over this and requested that he open up a claim. In the meantime, I am going to report this to my local Post Master as clearly something happen and my post office isn't being 100% truthful or doesn't really care. I spoke to the supervisor that morning on the loading docks and he basically waved me off to calling the 1-800 number and complain.

Anyway, I understand that it is the holiday and people travel but the seller hasn't emailed me back. Frankly, I am getting annoyed at the lack of communication. I have purchased from him in the past so I am not a unknown to him either. Right now I am at them point of filing a paypal claim. It isn't a terrible amount of money but I am just frustrated at the amount of time and worry I have invested without one peep from him.

Should I just ride this out until Monday?

I assume it was scanned as "delivered", however, you did not receive it.

If it is scanned as "delivered" on USPS.com, Paypal will side with the shipper.

No difference if it had shipped Priority.

This time of year lots of packages are simply left on doorsteps with barely a knock on the door.

:(

There is so much that could have happened. But the mailman admits to never knocking. That is one point I will raise with the post master. The other is I have had too many media mail packages prescanned and never delivered for a day or two later. Considering one neighbor comes home mid-afternoon and didn't see anything, I have a feeling it was never delivered.

I know I am out the money. I only wanted to get the seller to communicate back with me. I emailed the website's support, who finally got the seller to contact me back. Of course, he is washing his hands. I tried to file a claim as directed by the 1-800 USPS number and there was no insurance. So I cannot even file a claim. Which again, would not do anything but at least there is a complaint on file through the system. Free shipping is great until all the safety options are taken out of your control and the seller chooses the cheapest method. I still believe it this was Priority Mail, I would have the books in hand.

I was just tracking a media mail package these last two weeks. It was marked ready for pickup at my po box on the 16th. So I kept checking and no notice left in my box. I finally asked for a supervisor on the 22nd and he checked on found it for me. He said he had his crew catching up on priority mail and they didn't have a chance to do the physical sorting of media mail because of the volume overall.

So I'd be patient.

I had a First Class package ship on Dec 14th then didn't leave local sorting hub until the 24th. I received an email from the customer at 10pm Christmas Eve telling me that I sucked for not delivering the Christmas present in time. Would have been nice to know a few days earlier so I could have either tracked it down or shipped another. All over a $5 item. :ohnoez:

That sucks. When I was selling, the little orders usually have the biggest problems. They should have contacted you a lot sooner.

I didn't see the thread but if the filler books helped sell the box then I can see why the mods considered it a mystery box. If someone wants to add filler books then you can always just add the books to the package without announcing if. But if the books you list are $30 worth of books and sell the box for $50 since the buyer will get 30 filler books then I can see the issue.

That’s probably a good point – I had no precise idea on the value of the 15 or so listed, so I couldn’t tell, but this surely will help Chip to fine-tune the offer and to avoid the "Mystery Box".

Very good point.

There's the law and then there's the spirit of the law. (shrug)

Point is moot. I posted it, someone humped the button, post removed.

I guess I'll have to post a picture of everything in the box.

In an act of defiance, you should post pics of only the BACK covers.

Seller washed his hands. I was hoping he would have split the difference but I can understand too. I think it was his bad for not insuring the package as the post office will not even entertain an investigation. Plus I had comics in that order so it should never have been sent via Media Mail. So beware of free shipping from Atomic Avenue. It is a shame as that seller has pristine TPs. I have order from him a few times and probably never again.

Good news is that I was able to find the one book that is a bit harder to get and the comics again. I placed an order for them to be shipped UPS. *Fingers crossed* But I know I will not have a problem with UPS as I know the driver for many years and he doesn't deliver to me until around 6pm.

It's frustrating sometimes that we HAVE to have a price in the sale forums. I'm sitting on a fair amount of esoteric that I have no idea how to price. Nothing exorbitant, but stuff that would net me a good amount if I could sell it...it's just not efficient time-wise to exhaustively research it all. I know people here would be interested since it all would be cheap, but I'd rather just throw up group pictures and have people claim items at $3-5 each instead of pricing every single thing when price information isn't readily available on everything.
