Not the race card again.  Nick Fury has always been considered an uninteresting, boring character by the general comic book fan. Looking at CGC prices prior to his casting (and after) will tell you that skin color isn't the problem. If anything, casting a dynamic personality like Smauel L Jackson only helped make the character more interesting.

Exactly on point…nothing to do with race. This book has always been undervalued and it has everything to do with the character, not who plays him on the big screen.

FF52 used to be a cheap book…not any more. Is it only popular now because he’s a black dude? No, it’s an interesting character.

Quit playing the race card…it’s not as big of a deal as some make it out to be.

Can it really be because they cast Samuel L. Jackson in the MCU instead of a white dude?

Maybe in one of Marvel’s alternate universes? In this universe the posit is beyond ludicrous as he is the highest grossing box office actor of all time.

Here are Session 1A and 1B results for the January ComicLink Focused Auction.    Given the volume of books in Session 3 and 4....I will probably not do much of a recap.    If I do it will really be just a few highlights.

Also note that GPA just updated to the 2022 average so there is not much of a spread between 12 mos and 2022 average.   I should have put 2021 average instead but was too far along before I really thought about it...will try to compare to 2021 average in the next auction or two.

Enjoy the weekend.

Wait, I'm not understanding what you're trying to say.

I'm just asking if people are less interested in classic comic-book Nick Fury because he doesn't resemble Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury as featured in the Ultimates universe and the MCU.

There's no "race card" here, calm down please.

I asked a simple question based on the fact that MCU Nick Fury is clearly taken from the "Ultimates universe" version of the character.  Which means that maybe, maybe, some collectors feel like good ol' cigar-chomping Earth-616 Nick Fury is not the guy in the MCU.  It's a question worth considering since books like Strange Tales #135 and Nick Fury #1 underperform their comps in the market.

The whole series has climbed strongly in value, sales of 9.8 copies of issues 4, and 5 can exceed #1 sometimes.   People love the series, there's no question there.   The series only comes second to Silver Surfer's first series, with issues 3, and 4 getting strong results for the right copies.

No one touches any of the issues for Submariner, or Ironman after issue 1.

If you ranked the 68's by series collectibility, and desirability across the run, it probably looks like this,

1. Silver Surfer

2. Nick Fury

3.Captain America

4.Incredible Hulk

5. Doctor Strange

Also ran... Ironman, Sub-mariner.

Who know's what next.   Fury 1 does look cheap right now, there's a lot of room for appreciation.  Let's see what happens with the next movie (shrug).    Also the Sub-mariner series could see a reverse of fortunes, anything is possible these days.

I agree overall with what you're saying, though I think you might be a little too harsh on Iron Man and Sub-Mariner.  While I agree that I'm probably one of the few collecting the entire run of these titles, there are several issues for each title that command high prices, Iron Man #55 being the most obvious example but not the only one.

Great point. While issue 1 lags way behind IM1, Subby1, the Stersnko covers keep interest high on 2,3,4,5,7 .

Almost no one seeks IM3 or Subby 4 its 1st issue only.  Subby 8 of course is a  FF112ish situation

I won't speak to the value, but outside of SS, Nick Fury is my favorite of 68s for one reason. Sterenko's cover art.

It was such a divergence from your typical art of the super hero era. It's kind of a throw back to 50s Sci Fi, but somehow new, fresh and psychedelic at the same time.

I love SS as well, but the rest of 68s I never cared for.

I think we're all calm here. You may be claiming not to be using the race card, but that's exactly what you did. You asked if the race of a movie cast character being different than the race of a comic book character is the reason the book is less valuable than others. The answer is no. The book doesn't do well because the character is not very interesting for most comic fans. And I think many would claim the movie casting made the character much more interesting than the comic book character.

vs Last Sale seems to be doing slightly better than vs 22 avg. January typically does better than Nov/Dec. Will be interesting to see if the improvement continues into February.

There will probably be improvement at Comic Link because Feb is one of their featured auctions. Outside of CL I would not be surprised to see things nose up slightly leading into spring, but I doubt there will be big changes overall since the economic conditions are not really pointing in the direction of extra disposable cash for people.

I feel the same.  I have the 18 issue run all in 9.4/9.6 (1-5 are in 9.6) .. I don't have the money to buy the 9.8's.
