Sometimes the venue matters… This sold on PWCC last night, it’s primarily a sports card marketplace. Being the seemingly only under bidder, I’m assuming it would have gone for about 1000$ less if not for me…

My current observation comes in a particular area I'm collecting (Bronze Marvels minor keys) and boy, the GPA data I'm seeing shows these higher-grade (8.0 to around 9.4 or 9.6) slabs in freefall - I've probably compared 20-25 books in the past two weeks in the same area. I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on a few things because even good deals might be losses in another few months. I'll either buy at 2020 price, or wait until it gets down to that. I don't think the end is near.

I looked up one today and it's listed for $100 more than last sale, and it's down 30-40%% from 2021 sales. It's got another $100 to go before it gets back down to 2020 average price.

I passed up a key book that was listed for 60% less than last years average and $100 under last sale - which was a great deal - but I think there is still room for this book to splat on the ground.

I'm no expert, this is just my observation in one tiny sector of the non-blue chip slabs area.

As many have noted on the boards over the years, if a copy of a, let us say, CGC graded Bronze Age comic book sells for $$$$ at auction often enough (at least for me that I have been wiling to wait for many years) the copy that may come to market after that one may sell for $$$ or $$. Granted, sometimes they sell for $$$$$ and, of course, the "Covid-19 Era" obliterated such decreases in many (perhaps most) instances.

Are these the types of books that are readily avilable in grade and as a result, tends to show up at auction in various condition grades on an ongoing basis with seemingly no apparent end in sight?  

If so, I guess that explains the reason for the huge drops that we are seeing since it's a case of current supply overwhelming current demand.  

At least the one positive we should see from this downfall in prices is that the turnaround times for these books should be dropping like a rock and those much hated TAT's of more than a full year when FOMO driven irrational exuberance was driving the marketplace will become a distant memory.

I would say yes - they are pretty common minor keys that turn up often. Not lots of them always available, but frequent enough that I can probably wait a week or two and another will turn up for sale. I definitely can bide my time to either find one in my price range, or wait for that one nice presenter to show up as well. And I'd guess I'm not the only person thinking like this. And mind you, I'm not a big player or big buyer - casual collector, and it's apparent way down on the Lower Decks where I'm at. I can only imagine what the big time guys are seeing.

Despite the broader market being flat, i continue to believe that the quality break-down the MCU has experienced with their content in Phase 4 and now 5 has hammered SA and BA Marvels.  A lot of viewers have lost interest; reports are that 'Ant-Man 3' is going to lose money.  That lost interest has driven a ton of speculators and investors away.  I don't see 'GOTG3' or 'the Marvels' doing much to recapture the lost excitement.  Looks like it's going to be up to 'Fantastic Four' to save things.

Might be due to all those F-35B flying overhead (no joke - 6 flights of 2 x F35-B have left Victorian base heading North this morning along with Armour / Artillery on Trains) - Somethings up.

Are speculators the cream of the market, spurring prices upward?

Outside of keys, comic books are as flat as pan cake for 2 decades straight.   And I'm talking 9.4 SA, 9.6 BA/CA or lower.   Outside of the recent boom, things have bobbed up and a down here and there, but essentially gone nowhere.

We need good MCU movies, we need speculators keen to join the hobby.

The issue is with everyone spec'ing on everything people new to the market get burned.

Books seemed to gain momentum versus launching into the stratosphere overnight.

And yes, blue chip keys (depending when you bought them...pre 2020 or post 2022...) will always win out in the long term.

Indeed. If I had not purchased many of the comic books (e.g., major and minor keys) I did during that period I would have been unwilling to do so since, at least, the "Covid-19 Era" because I would not have wanted to sink so much of my comic book money into them. Granted, many would have (and may) increased in value but since I'm a collector who may (may) sell his collection someday, if I don't pass it on to my daughter to enjoy and perhaps profit from, I would have enjoyed doing other things with that money (like adding more, as if I needed to, to my N, HO, and O scales model train layouts and collection and military, ship, plane, automobile, science fiction, etc., plastic model kits assembly and collection).

Clearly, I have far, far too many hobbies.
