Honestly, the specific grade doesn't really matter, nor the print. I just want a good looking copy of that issue in my collection. I'd be very happy with an 8.0-9.0 of the third print raw but that never comes up on the market. It's always the first or second print in 9.6. If I can save thousands by just going for a 9.0, I would.

I too would like one in my collection. Although I really want a 1st print signed by Vanilla Ice..

As long as there is new rich-blood in this hobby - i.e. bit-coin crowd, plain-vanilla investors looking to park their money as well as good old market manipulation via shill bidding, collusion and that sort - I see these Bronze-key upper grades in 9.8 going up and also coming down all in one quarter - just depends on which way the wind blows or how the hammer happens to fall that day at auction. I personally find it problematic when individuals try and predict comics with analytics.  I strongly believe this hobby does not lend itself to data analysis but to strong intuition and plain old common-sense (both lacking IMO with most comic collectors following the siren's call only :devil:).  How else can you explain a guy eagerly paying 2k for a common key today that he passed up at $600 a year ago? :flamed: Even these discussion threads as well as all those repetitive "What's Hot in comics this month?" videos are all in my opinion echo-chambers constantly propping up individuals opinions about what to buy and how much to spend.  This hobby is very insular with a tremendous amount of 'cause and effect' where one sale at times can move a mountain of buyers or one brief movie announcement can cause a huge ripple effect.  Like lemmings many collectors eagerly rush to the investment cliff as long as the popcorn-crowd around them remains thick and their tiny legs can carry them into the that promising abyss.  My 2-cents. :preach:

That's what a lot of us 40+ guys on these Boards -- that aren't watching YouTubers and IG'ers -- aren't realizing.  There are a ton of younger collectors that have swarmed to the hobby these last few years, with an acceleration of new buyers during the Pandemic.  Many are speculators, sure, but many are not -- they really are smitten with collecting old comic books.  They truly love what these Marvel Studios films have given to their generation.  Price plateuing, some corrections here and there, will happen for sure.  But long-term growth on quality, desirable, vintage material will only continue going up this decade, and into the 2030s.

With 9.6's still selling in the $20K neighborhood, my guess would be that 9.8's settle in the $40K neighborhood, +/- 15% on any given auction for the usual reasons. That of course is just a guess. Any sort of X Men MCU news would probably goose the book back up again but until that happens, it's not the flavor of the month.
